Lol...

And if the engine's processing system was running windows XP we would had to stop and reset the car every now and then.

Jokes aside though - that's where it's all heading.

Heck, even my Forester's come in for an ECU "reflash" the other day to sort out an engine management gremlin. The fix? Hook up a laptop and download the latest ECU map. Freaky.

M5's torque output? Electronically limited by software parameters coded for each gear...

That's just one classic example (by the gazillions) of software engine management and tuning.

In the future we'll be asking "E180 quad-turbo M5 eh? So what patch level you running?
