You insist talking about the track huh . You made it sound like R8 is the perfect track toy. Its not, the comfort is there to live with everyday with. After some track experience I pretty sure I would have more fun and better driving experience with R8 than SL65. Brake feel, steering feel, gearbox, handling and such details are very important to me. Heck I dont even need trillions of horsepower to enjoy a car on a track, give me an Elise and it would much more fun driving a Elise than those heavy supercars.

Yeah but we all know that comfort is not the primary goal of Audi when it made the R8.

Well Tarek nothing personal, but me owning few cars changed the way I think about cars. |Few years back my dream car was the Mercedes CLS and then it became the SL. Am not gonna lie, but the only way for me to own those cars is by winning them on a lotary or something. Those cars are dead. Design and power are not the only selling points, it should be the whole package. And yes for the time being I settled for an SUV but at least it is the best handling one on the market right now. And last week I discovered it is a great off roader although it could be better. Moreover, my perfect car would be the 911 2S PDK but that is not the right time to buy one. So please, don't judge by what car I drive now since it has no indication of what I want to drive.

EDIT: Yesterday I drove the new M3 Supercharged by G power, now thats a different story, Although I am a BMW fan but I enjoyed the porsche 911 PDK more. It felt faster (although it is not) and more nimble, the Brakes on the Porsche are to die for.

Regards

Well to begin i think u misunderstood me or i was not so clear.

I didn't mean to offend the way u think coz u are driving a SUV,but what i meant is cars like the SL65 BS or the R8 will definitely be more fun to drive than a SUV,that's all.

Besides looks and rarity, can't think of a single reason to get SL65 BS instead of the vanilla SL65.

Wow,Schumi is talking

Too bad BMW doesn't have anything near that segment to compare it to but...anyway i can think of a couple of reason to pick the Black over regular SL65.

250kg lighter.
661bhp,the most powerful German car currently in production.

Re: Edmunds Inside Line - 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 First Drive

The SL65 Black is not meant to have the best handling, its meant to be a "Thriller" just like the CLK Black. Sure the R8 V10 handles better, but a SL65 B.S owner won't give a s**t about that.

This car has my full respect but when ever I see an LP560, the R8 V10 parish from my memory.

Read the road and track test, the BS was not any faster than a 'normal' (you seem to not like the term vanilla) SL65 in a straight line. It might be faster around a track, but then if track performance was your consideration, you have better choices for fraction of the cost. So I ask again, besides its looks and rarity (both of which I admit are very compelling) why get the BS over a normal SL65.

I will ignore rest of your childish comments.

Re: Edmunds Inside Line - 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 First Drive

Look, it's not like Merc needed to improve the straightline performance of the SL65 nor was it like they were engineering a 911 GT2 trackday beater. Clearly the SL65 BS is engineered to be something in between: a very fast roadcar both in straightline terms as well as being sharper and more responsive in real-world cornering. Add the deliciously outrageous bodyshape to this and the car is all it needs to be. The world is full of Mercedes Benz enthusiasts with the right money who know exactly what the SL65 BS is all about and they're going to buy it for that reason.

Let's be perfectly frank here, the excessive output of the twin-turbo V12 in the vanilla (I like the term) SL65 meant that even with a plus two ton kerbweight - the SL65 had more power and torque than was necessary or even totally usable. The SL65 AMG BS being lighter, is still going to have an almighty struggle between 1000 Nm and two fat rear tyres despite the wider track which has been introduced to enhance cornering ability rather than as a means to improving traction. I reckon the SL65 BS will be all the handling 97.2371% of good drivers will want.

The point here is that in this discussion it was brought up that the R8 V10 is the better of two efforts compared with the SL65 AMG BS - a car being described as less than what it could've been. I'm refuting that point and am saying that the SL65 AMG BS is all the success that it needs to be. It shouldn't, therefore, be expected to beat the R8 at its own game.

But back to the car at hand; the R8 V10 is the business.
