Sport Auto Supertest - Audi R8

Thanks to ajzahn on Supercars.net for providing the following scans.

Nurburgring: 8:04 mins

The R8 didn´t break through the magic 8 mins. barrier even with its optional Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, the high traction and the safe handling. The steering could be more precise with less understeer, it suffers from the more comfortable than sporty suspension. The optional ceramic disk brake shows an outstanding performance.

Hockenheim short track: 1.12.7 mins

The setting is a bit indifferent, again it shows some understeer but can easily be controlled with the throttle. The 4WD offers a lot of traction the R8 can take advantage of at the exit of a turn. The R8 offers a pefect handling, the limits are very heigh so that it alwys feels save and comfortable

Acceleration and brake test:

0-200-0 km/h: 20.9 secs.,
Same as Aston martin V12 Vanquish and Lotus Esprit Sport 350

0-200 km/h: 16.2 secs.
200-0 km/h: 4.7 secs.

Aerodynamic balance:

7 kg uplift and 1 Kg downforce at 200 km/h at the front/rear axle,
Cd = 0.35, could be better, but the air intakes at the front and the rear are responsible for that resistance also limiting the acceleartion form 200 km/h to top speed, seems a bit slow

Max lat. accelration (skidpad): 1.3 g

Thanks to the grip of the optional Pirelli P ZTero Corsa tyres

Specs

420 PS at 7,800 rpm
430 Nm at 4,500-6,000 rpm
bore x stroke: 84.5 x 92.8 mms
compression: 12.5 : 1
109 PS/litre

kerb weight: 1595 kg
power-to-weight: 286 PS/ton

0-100 km/h: 4.7 secs.
0-160 km/h: 10.5 secs.
0-200 km/h: 16.2 secs.
Vmax: 301 km/h

18m slalom: 68.6 km/h
36m slalom: 132 km/h
110m evasion test: 136 km/h
wet handling: 1:29.0

Verdict:

Due to it's sporty exterior the Audi R8 is no understatement at all, but it also didn´t meet the high expectations as far as driving dynamics are concerned. But this is the 1st shot for Audi in the supercar league and it already has reached the level that was reserved to Porsche before. It is no high flyer, but a perfect sports car and daily driver. It'll only take some minor modifcations to become more hardcore.

Re: Sport Auto Supertest - Audi R8

Uplift on the front isn't nice, making the car to understeer probably.

But I guess it's a safety feature.

Re: Sport Auto Supertest - Audi R8

It's interesting how faster was the AMS-tested R8 at the 110m-evasive test:

Carmag: AMS / Sport Auto
Tires: new Pirelli P Zero / Pirelli P Zero Corsa
18 m: 69,2 km/h / 68,6 km/h
110 m evasive: 149 km/h / 136 km/h
