R8 impressions from a C4S owner -
05-14-2007, 01:45 AM
Owner of a C4S with Porsche sport suspension(lowered 20mm + LSD)
Gnil @ rennteam
"I tried the R8 today ( thanks to my brother)
Here are my impressions, mainly compared to my C4S.
The first obvious thing was the weight distribution. The R8 feels very balanced , 50 in the front, 50 in the back. The front is heavier then my C4S.
The car is very easy to drive, even fast. Very good grip , easy to put into the curve as the front is precise and leads the car. Very easy the go fast in bends, car stays neutral..until the front start to pull out a bit.
More understeer then on my C4S
I really disliked the DSG transmission. Maybe I do not know how to use it properly, but it feels half like automatic , half like a real gear shift. Sometimes it is rough, sometimes like an automatic. Not what I had expected at all. ( never tried before DSG )
Only the sound when downshifting is nice to listen to and it works very well, but then I felt frustrated that I was not the one give the little throttle when downshifting.
I prefer to do it myself then to have a computer do it for me !
I drove down hard on a very twisty small mountain. The brakes work very well, actually the first bite is stronger then on the C4S, but when I arrived at the bottom, there was lots of smoke coming from the brakes They were so hot!!! So I would not trust those brakes under heavy conditions.
My C4S does not do this when driving the same road.
Otherwise the car feel heavier then mine ( which it is) and has a more GT feel the the Porsche.
It would,(if no inside space is needed) easy be a daily driver, quite comfortable, extremely well built. More comfortable then my C4S - 20mm, but also less sporty !
The sound of the engine is like the RS4, just a bit louder.
Not my taste !
All together it is an enhanced TT"

Does everyone realise the R8 does not have the DSG, it has the E-Gear from the Lamborghini, the DSG is 4mm too long for the R8 and it wont' fit, so that explains why he is surprised by the gearbox, because it isn't a DSG.
