Porsche 911 which is the main target of R8 can also be equiped with many different engines. |

The Motorvision had tested the Audi R8... and the program presented as competitors: - Maserati Gransport (400hp) - Corvette C6 (404hp) - Porsche 911 GT3 (415hp) - MB SL 500 (388hp) - Jaguar XKR (416hp) - Aston Martin V8 Vantage (385hp) Its a great review, but, it is in German and I understood little of what the presenter spoke :/ |

 Check out this R8 posted by forum user Nightranger in another thread. It was his contention that this car is a V10 version of Audi's supercar in testing at the Nurburghring. Though there's nothing conclusive that proves that claim, this is certainly an odd duck. The HH on the license plates and preproduction status of the R8 suggest this is a car owned by quattro GmbH. Note also some details pointed out by Nightranger. The side blade intake is rounded out for greater airflow to the motor. Also, a new sideskirt design on this particular R8 is similar in design to the skirts on the S5. So what do you think? V10? 60 more hp from a new engine and a V10 at that?? hmm why not more..the competition is ahead in hp race.. now im not saying that it should have 600hp but 500 maybe?? or is it so that the R8 is made for sub 500hp.. who knows |

This should bring it up to somewhere near the magic 500bhp mark, giving the R8 a healthy dollop of mid-range punch over the current V8. According to Inside Line , Audi R8 will get the same engine with RS6 next year... "Rumors of a V10-powered R8 have been circulating ever since modified prototypes were spotted testing at the Nürburgring. With the recent debut of the RS6's twin-turbo V10, word is the same 5.2-liter power plant will find its way into the R8 late next year."
