Driving Experience in South Africa

HIGH, THERE! Keeping all four wheels on the ground is not part of what real off-road driving is all about. Sometimes, as on this track at Zevenwacht, it's downright impossible.

The Audi Driving Experience was at Zevenwacht wine estate, near Cape Town, for a few days to show owners – and potential owners – just what the new three-litre diesel Audi Q7 can do in serious off-road conditions. Most were amazed – the rest only awed.

Frankly, I was surprised, too. Usually, when any automaker launches a R600 000+ MPV such as the Q7 to the motoring media, the vehicles rarely stray off the tar – and, if they do, it's only on to a modest dirt road. Zevenwacht's mountainside tracks, rocks and deep sand are much more than that.

Audi SA, in collaboration with Continental Tyres, Sonax Car Care and Graffiti branding, has supplied ADE with a half-dozen vehicles for its R2200 one-day courses under the tutelage of Mark Allison and his team.
