Porsche 996TT now less expensive than 993 TT

I did some looking around at eBay Motors and came up with these 5 MY 2001 996TTs that were all less expensive than the least expensive 993TT that I saw (MY1997 $64,800). The prices quoted are the Buy it Now price:

2001 $59,900: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

2001 $60,888:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

2001 $58,800: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

2001 $53,995: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

2001 $55,995: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

Anyone interested in getting a modern turbocharged Porsche, now might be a good time to check out the market.

And if you own a 993TT, hold on to it!

Interesting information Olli. I remember reading through my various "GT Purely" magazines and it appeared the 993 Turbo and 996 Turbo held near equal value in Britian. Even though the 996 is cheaper then the 993, i'd have to buy the 993 Turbo.

I agree, you can't go wrong with the 993TT. It's a classic.

Yet the 993TT is a classic and is actually the last moderately exotic 911. As with many high performing cars the 911TT does depretiate alot especially 2-3 years after the demand has been met. The GT2 is also taking some bad depretiation beating right now. Then again the cars you have posted are 5 years old which does account quite alot for the "low" price. Are you planing on pulling the trigger on a 996 TT?

Re: Porsche 996TT now less expensive than 993 TT

Supply and demand- over 22,000 996TT were built. If I remember right only about 5000 993TT built, most of them 1996's. Only 7-800 1997 993TT were sold in the USA. Look for the same thing on the 997TT. And don't forget 996TT is also now in the price range of 964 turbo 3.6.

Thanks Luwalira! I have also noticed the price level of the GT2s. They seem to be about the same as the 993 (Twin) Turbo S - cars. You are right about the age of these 996s. The later models are still more expensive. But the trend is still quite clear. The 993TT will end up being the more valuable car, despite the fact that the 996 is a "better" car from a technological point of view.

No, I am not quite ready to pull the trigger on either of those two cars. I will get a second Porsche within the next couple of years though to keep company to my 930. Still deciding which one to get. 993TT the top contender, but it could be anything from a 356 to a 997.

Exactly, this is the car that will definitely also keep it's value, or it will go upwards due to its' rarity, and the fact that it's the best original style Porsche Turbo there is. Positively another keeper.

Correction: A Rennlister just put up his Arena Red 1997 993TTS for sale for $140,000. I've seen GT2's at a lot lower than that.

Thanks for a very accurate number. I never knew that the 993TT was produced in such a "small" quantity. That problably explains why I barely ever seen one on the roads, unlike the 996TT which isn't a rare sight.
