Techart wins Tuner Grand Prix at Hockenheim

It’s one thing to turn out extravagant, flamboyant modified supercars, but it’s something else entirely to put those cars on the track and race them for best times around a famous Grand Prix circuit like Hockenheim, but that’s exactly what the contenders at the Tuner Grand Prix did last weekend in Germany. Techart, known for their over-the-top takes on most of Porsche’s line-up, took home the top spot with their GTstreet RS, based on the Porsche GT2.

The battle for fast lap time resulted in Carrera Cup pilot Jorg Hardt turning in a 1m 6.811s lap of the famed circuit in the overall GT class. The cabrio class, which featured topless tuner cars, was also dominated by the Hardt/Techart combination, this time in a GTstreet Cabriolet that lapped the course in 1m 10.382s.

A ’standard’ GTstreet is no slouch of a car, knocking out 630hp (463kW) and a top speed of 214mph (345km/h), but Techart thought it could use a little extra for the competition and boosted output in the GTstreet RS to 700hp (515kW) and 860Nm of torque. Like the regular GTstreet, the RS has a custom suspension developed in conjunction with Bilstein, but this model’s was especially adapted to the short Hockenheim circuit.

The company also credits the tires as important choices, especially considering the hot temperatures and rough conditions. The Michelin Sport Cup Plus tires in 245/30 on 20-inch rims up front and 315/25 20-inchers in the back made for ample traction.’
