Exclamation Porsche prototype engine stolen, Techart involved

Translation leeched off rennteam:

"German Police has taken action against a gang of 8 people (obviously some of them Porsche employees) - four of them arrested today.
They have stolen 3 engines (of which one is described as an "engine of the future" ) + gearboxes and parts from the Porsche R&D center in Weissach.
Engines have been sold to a "Porsche tuning firm" in the vicinity of Böblingen and have been seized there by the police.
"

"Here is more to this weird story: according to a press announcement from Techart another dealer offered them a "997 TT engine". When Techart did inspect the engine they found out, that it was a different engine. Guess Techart now has a clue about Porsche's next generation engine."

This sounds pretty serious and I hope that Techart won't get into too much trouble.

Porsche development engines mysteriously appear at TechArt shop

The scandal! German tuner shop TechArt might have thought it was Christmas when it unwrapped three prototype Porsche engines. Final Gear reports that two conventional engines and one "engine of the future" missing from Porsche's development center have been found in the custom car builder's garage, much to Porsche's irritation. TechArt maintains its innocence, stating that employees bought the engines in good conscience and thought they were getting conventional 997 engines. We don't know much more than that, but it appears so far that Porsche is taking the tuner to court for theft, and that two Porsche employees, and two customers, are in the slammer.

Re: Porsche prototype engine stolen, Techart involved

This is goint to damage Porsche and Techart's relationship big time. If I were Techart I would have taken a good look at the engines, snapped a few photographs of the engines and then called the Police. When prototypes gets stolen it usually isn't that difficult to pin point theifs, who will in most cases start sining about who they sold the items too.

Though I do wonder what the "engine of the future" is. Sound pretty revolutionising. Might be a replacement for the Boxter engine which seem to have reached it's limits.

It was actually Porsche employees who stole the engines and sold them off to Techart.

You need to do some research into the superiority of Boxer engines over conventional in-line and V configuration engines Luw.

Paying particular attention to the plethora of benefits that a Boxer engine already has over regular engines of the same displacement I am assured that the next level in technology for Porsche has nothing to do with adding more cylinders or increasing displacement - it's about introducing further technological improvements such as direct injection and pneumatic / electronic valvetrain actuation. Making engines, lighter, stronger, higher-revving and more responsive is Porsche's strategy - and they're not charging along chasing the (somewhat) unholy grail of displacement alone.

You're probably right Martin. The term "engine of the future" doesn't sound like some normal high displacement engine you'll find in your average 400hp+ sports car. There must be something revolutionising about it.

This is so unfair to Techart, how else are they supposed to get a let up on Porsche without a little snooping!
