Hey, no offense guys, but Stuttgart did say ONE car, for the rest of your entire life; and, if I might be so bold, perhaps it would be nice if you would all add why you chose what you chose.
Maybe some of you may want to rethink your choices - when you're 70 years old, do you still want to be driving your Zonda F? Where will you put the kids when they're 2 years old? Maybe you won't have kids, and maybe you plan on dying young before you reach anywhere near 70. But hey, do at least think about it.
---
For me, if it was one car only..
I'm going to stay away from sports cars; not practical enough for my liking in a 'rest of my life' car. Same with massive sedans, or tiny city cars. That said, SUVs and MPVs are too large and bulky. I want some degree of dynamic capability.
That leaves sedans and wagons. I guess a wagon (shock, horror) might be nice; it can carry a few more things and, these days, wagons are more or less the dynamic equals of their sedan counterparts.
I'm not a fan of too-small wagons, and neither do I think too-large wagons are ultimately the best, from my current perspective. I'll also assume that petrol will still be in supply, etc. etc.
So, a midsize wagon seems to be best. 4WD would be a nice touch, traction wise. Many Japanese models aren't quite the complete package; however something like a Subaru Liberty 3.0R wagon might be nice.
However, especially in terms of interior appointments, I think the most favourable would be an Audi S4 Avant. Looks nice, goes well, and with plenty of options in the interior. I like the simple, clean and elegant looks more than the 3er Touring, which isn't bad; and much more than the ageing C-class.
From this choice you can tell my priorities. Dynamics and performance aren't my ultimate concern; a bit of practicality and flexibility for life are more important. That said, I want to be able to enjoy driving as well.
If an S4 is too expensive, a 2.0TFSI quattro with S-Line package would be nice. I'm a bit wary of owning a 'facelift' model when the next generation is almost surely being developed now, but it's still my preferred model of the German three. | | | | | Aficionado

The C4S is a Turbo minus the forced induction. I know when my dad bought his 996 C4S, after just a couple of months he told me he wished he had gotten the Turbo. | | | | | Connoisseur
