Re: WARDS Best Engine Awards 2007 - 12-06-2006, 03:25 PM

From the article:
Quote:
Each engine must be available in a regular-production, U.S.-specification model on sale no later than the first quarter of 2007 in a vehicle priced no more than $54,000, a price cap indexed to the average cost of a new vehicle.
That's why the BMW V10 or Audi RS4 engine isn't there.

Thanks. I hadn't noticed that. But why 54k and not 50k or 60k or whatever?

Has to do with some sort of index multiplied over the average price of a new car.

They just don't say what the index actually is.

hmm, very unexpended engines. But i hope the either the 335's engine of the Audi one will get the award. I can't see how a Ford or Nissan engine can win over a german one...

535d is not for sale in US and therefore not one of the engines in this competition.

Let's just wait for the real Engine of the Year awards then, and forget about this crazy list

Can you tell me more about the 5.7 HEMI V8? I know they are distinctively different in the sense that their cylinders are spherical, allowing better combustion. Are there any more benefits and does the capacity need to be so huge?
