Highway to hell

Forget Autobahns, now I'll show you the ultimate place for rwd M, RS and AMG-cars. Link: Russian Federal highway Moscow city - Yakutsk City

I know an experience that roads can get really bad when snow and deep ice melts away in the spring time but some of those pictures are taken just recently. I also know that Russia is poor for sure but this is just ...

Shameful it is, but I suppose these shots were taken somewhere closer to Yakutsk, which is in Eastern Siberia, some 8,500 km from Moscow by car...

Aye, that would make sense... I just hope it looks better near Moscow.

Re: Highway to hell

Yep, looks pretty interesting but as has been stated, still understandable if it's way out there somewhere in the eastern regions of Siberia.

Just for some perspective, (especially since I think a couple of guys here know this road) the distance between the two Finnish cities of Turku and Helsinki is approx 165km (~100miles). I believe in a year or two that whole distance is connected by a "Motor way or road" which in the US would be comparable to a freeway or Interstate. In other words the distance will be a snap to cover in 1.5-2 hours.
In 1960, as a 6 year old, I travelled with my father from Turku to Helsinki to pick up my father's brand new "Donau". We got a ride in a family friends' Rover. The trip along the mostly winding dirt-road with pot holes etc took 5 - 6 hours.
Now, 1960 was not all that long time ago, and the roads have improved dramatically. So, who knows, maybe these remote Russian roads will also improve in a few more years....

For what I've hear the Moscow-St. Petersburg road is quite OK these days... not that I have personal experience, I've only visited Russia once and that was way back in '87.

I did the trip once and trust me it's not that great (ok so it's not like the pictures but still). Russian rodes are horrible because the weather is so harsh and it's never restored. BUt then again, it's maybe because I'm spoiled by American highways now.

Unfortunately that is not 100% true. Russia is not a rich country at all. The millionairs are the ones rolling in a convoy of 8 Benzes, while who knows how many people die during the winter because they are homeless.

Also, the city is "expensive" because of places like hotels, casinos and what not. It also depends where you live. If you live in a house, it will be insanely expensive. Apartments, not so much.

P.S. Just speaking from personal experience, lived there for 5 years and loved it!
