Geez, there's no pleasing some people! Here we have two examples of MB improving models exponentially over the previous generations. These cars are far from conservative. Both these cars have already achieved what their predecessors couldn't even dream about - up to date looks, high quality, prestige and a great drive. As far as I'm concerned, Mercedes is on the path to recovery.
As for the comment about over-Americanisation of MB design and influence, well, all I can say is as a car maker you'd be stupid if you didn't target your cars with specific appeal for Americans. Unfortunately, multinational companies can't afford not to tailor their products towards one of the biggest consumer markets in the world. It's the same with almost any other global product.
130i? It may be a great drive, but its looks are controversial, the practicality of which is expected by small car buyers is non-existent, and its damned expensive! |
B200 Turbo is not exactly cheap either... 28,000 euro vs 32,000 euroe for the 130i. Keep in my though that the B class has 193hp vs 265 for the bimmer.
The fact is, I'm not even sure if these 2 cars compete with each other... but the price for a "compact" germany luxury vehicle, the price will be considerable regardless.
Edit. By the way, the new Golf R32 costs as much as a 130i...
