This is a sobering thread. When we drool over all these exotics, we don't think much about how reliable they are by today's "normal car" standards. The fact is, they are high performance, engines are under more stress, they are tightly packaged which makes the labor expensive (very expensive) and the parts are proportionately expensive on these cars. These cars do break, and when they break, it's a different story from when a "normal car" breaks down. I have had an introduction to these costs with my little old "sports car" and the mods I want to do on it. That's why I will do everything I can myself. For two reasons: I don't have to feel lousy about the money I am pouring into "a car", and it's fun, relaxing, and builds a whole different relationship to your car (buddy). It really does become a family member with a name and all. |
