The ten hottest-selling cars in America

In the U.S. market at least, it's great to be a Toyota dealer. According to CNNMoney.com and Edmunds.com, Toyota's Prius tops the list of 10 hottest cars in America, with six Toyota models making the list (including all three Scion models).

Hybrids are hot, too - the Prius, Lexus RX400h and Ford Escape all made the list.

What makes a car "hot"? Edmunds defined a "hot" car as selling close to sticker price, having minimal incentives or rebates, and spending little time in dealer inventory before purchase. By these criteria, the "Hot 10" are, in order:
  • Toyota Prius
  • Mini Cooper
  • Pontiac Solstice
  • Scion xA
  • Scion xB
  • Scion tC
  • Lexus RX400h
  • Honda Civic
  • Toyota RAV4
  • Ford Escape Hybrid

Re: The ten hottest-selling cars in America

Quite understandable given the situation with oil today. Glad to see Mini Cooper so high on the list. It's a sharp looking little car, especially inside. BMW did a nice job with this car. Interestingly I seem to remember it was supposed to be looking like the original, but the feel actually isn't exactly the same for some reason, despite the details, like the dials and gauges being at the same spots etc. Somehow the sharp new, and more spacious interior give it a different feel from the original. But, to return to the topic, I am glad to see the car has done so well.

Re: The ten hottest-selling cars in America

Damn.. look at Toyota, they're occupying 6 of the top 10 positions. They're a real powerhouse when it comes to getting their cars to sell.

Amazing to see Mini still doing so strong... the cabrio's really re-igniting sales, and im sure BMW has a big grin coz of it.

Also, 3 hybrid's in that list... hmm... didn't know Americans were all that concerned about fuel prices. (Now don't take that as a comment flamming American's .... it's just that I recently came back from a holiday to California, and I saw many SUV's, and well, we all know SUV's aren't the most fuel efficient cars.) I guess there's a gradual change to more fuel efficient cars now... Ford and GM better get their act together, otherwise they're going to struggle even more against Toyota and Honda.

Still dirt-cheap as far as the Europeans in this forum are concerned.

Exactly.. all these damn American's whinging about fuel prices. You guys get it cheap compared to Europe and us commuters in Australia.
Yes 2-3 cars may be an issue... but fuel prices aren't anywhere near as expensive as the rest of world.

Yes, but the rest of the world didn't have to deal with the pice of gasoline trippling within the last few years; as the days when it was only $0.78 for a gallon of diesel were not that long ago. I'm sure if any person in this world had to deal with those circumstances they would be 'whining'. So to say 'only in America' is a bit ridiculous.

Yes, the rate at which fuel prices rose in America maybe be suprising...but I still find it annoying when American's complain about their fuel prices when it is still cheaper than Europe and Australia.
We've had high fuel prices well before America did and we've had to live with it..now I guess it's time for American's to accept that high fuel prices are here to stay.

That's the simple reality of it.

It's easy to see this list is a pretty accurate reflection of a new reality that has as much to do with oil/gas as an index of where U.S. tastes and determining priorities are headed.
