Mercedes is working on Jatropha in India. Partners are ADM, Bayer Cropscience, and Universität Hohenheim.

Oil from wasteland: In India, Mercedes-Benz is committed to the "Jatropha Project", which is helping to create jobs in agriculture. The jatropha bush even grows on wasteland which would otherwise remain unused. Its seeds are used to produce high-grade biodiesel.

Well one theory is that the earth is still producing oil. I don't know much about that theory but it is something to the effect that oil is made from some other reaction in the earth and not from dead dinos.

Considering many Oil Wells have dried up and others are running out, I don't know where this theory is coming from. Even if there is some other reaction that makes oil, the problem is that we are using it at an exponentially higher rate than it is being produced.

Brazil just found a few trillion? barrels off their coast a few months ago. Plus we don't know what is out in the middle of the oceans
Plus the few billion barrels the ecoterrorists wont let us touch in the US. That would greatly help the US right now if we could use it.

A few trillion? I HIGHLY doubt that. As for ANWAR, there is a GOOD reason for not drilling there. Feeding more to fat kid isn't what's going to help him out, you gotta put that fat kid on a diet so it can be in better shape; the US doesn't need MORE oil, we need to get the F_ck away from oil to alternatives faster than anyone else in the world to continue our dominance. That is the truth.

Ya it I don't think it was trillion, but it is about the same amout that Saudi Arabia has. There is no good reason for not drilling in ANWAR, ANWAR is two million acres and the area where the oil is at is only 40,000 acres in an area that is just swamp land with very little to no wildlife they wont be drilling all over the place. What about the oil in California, or Colorado, or Florida...
We can't drill off Florida, but Cuba is letting China drill there

I have no problem with Nukes. We can't build new plants, but we Iran can

I think the US does need oil, drilling and taxing our own oil is one of the few ways to dig ourselves out of this current economic mess. You can even use some of the profits to get the next power sorce.

Oh, sweet, is that the same theory about the earth being 5000 years old? I mean, yea, if the earth made all this oil in just 5000 years, it must be a pretty fast reaction, so I doubt we will run out of it.

That's the problem. People think it's just about the wildlife. It's not, it's about the eco system as a whole. We started drilling in other states when we didn't truly understand the consequences. Now that we do, it's a big risk and ANWAR is one of the VERY few places that holds such a rich ecosystem and so far it's been undisturbed and folks just want to keep it that way.

I'm with you on this man. Technology has progressed exponentially since Chernobyl but people are stupid and think that shit will happen again or that there is WAY too much nuclear waste produced. The new Nuke tech is so good that the margin for error is so small that it's not even worth mentioning and the new refineries (from what I've read) produce VERY little nuclear waste and even that is reusable.

Why would it screw up the eco system? We can do what ever is needed without messing up the eco system. Plus where we do 'mess up' the eco system the wildlife increases.

Chernobyl was just a shift change mixup. Shift A started doing one test and it ran long, when shift B took over they forgot to tell them what was going on Have not been any issues since then.
No new plants have been built in 30? years, if they can still run just fine, there is no reason why we can't build new plants that use new tech like windows vista. Ok ok not the best new tech.
The US only uses about 10% of the fuel rods before they are discared(thanks Carter), Fance and most others use 25%. We need to start doing that, the amout of waste will be greatly reduced.

And where the hell is my nuke powered car 1,000,000 miles between fill ups
