After Nissan announced in May of this year that its 480-horsepower, all-wheel-drive GT-R lapped Germany's infamous 20.8-km (12.9 miles) Nurburgring Nordschleife in a time of 7:29, Viper people became restless. Then, just a month later, following Chevrolet's declaration that its 638-horsepower supercharged Corvette ZR1 was the king of the hill, breaking the GT-R's record with a time of 7:26, Viper people became downright mad. Not the folks who work for Dodge, mind you, but the members of the Viper Club of America, a group of Viper fanatics that in fact stretches its arms well beyond America, as far as Japan and Germany. Sick and tired of hearing about other cars setting records at the Nordschleife, they wanted to see their pride and joy-namely, Dodge's new track-attacking 600-horsepower Viper ACR (American Club Racer)-take a shot at the record books. But what could they do about it?

I would now drop the Viper before the Vette has a chance to take the record back, since they are sometime soon.

Or develop it more and come back after the Vette takes it shot, then call the Viper the final edition.

First the Nissan GTR, then the 'Vette, and now the Viper.... looks like the European's aren't the only ones who know how to build fast cars that are good around the curves too!

Maybe now some people around here will take notice and begin to RESPECT and APPRECIATE non-European car company's.

Time to face the truth guys..... writing's on the wall!

I have always had enormous respect for Viper; together with Saleen, Mustang & 'Vette, it's my fave American car.

Kudos!

Sadly enough one of our favorite cars, the Saleen S7 has gone out of production.

The difference is that the German build sports cars while the Americans and Japs build cars that are specifically designed to go fast around the ring just to increase the length of their schlong. Try using that Viper as a daily driver. Colour me unimpressed.

Look at the size of that rear wing. Fine for if you fancy yourself for being an "ACR". But heck you'd be the laughing stock for such questionable taste on public roads. The line between pukka production car and track-tuned special is so blurred in this instance that I for one don't give a hoot about the 7:22 time. ZR1 still has legitimate production car credentials allied to the best looking American shape on the market.
