Toyota and Lexus propaganda - 04-30-2008, 09:43 AM

I don't know much about the history of misleading or over ambitious marketing campaigns, but for all I know, Toyota is the worst among all established car manufacturers.

On the weekend, during the ad breaks between the F1 broadcast, Toyota ran an ad about their Aurion. Take a look at the car below, does it look like it has Formula One inspired aerodynamics?

No, right? well that doesn't stop Toyota producing a 60 sec TV ad on telling us how aerodynamic the car was, and how the rear spoiler design has ''Formula One inspired aerodynamics" I tried to find the ad on youtube but they only have the short 19 sec version.

It gets better, look below, which is the bigger car?

If you say they are the same size, you are correct. Toyota is trying to tell us one is the medium sized car, while the other is a large sized car.
Toyota sell the 4 cylinder version of Camry as the Camry, and they market the car as a medium sized car, while the 6 cylinder version of the Camry has a different front and tail styling, and they call this car the Aurion, and market it as the car as a large sized car. I won’t be this annoyed if Toyota didn’t bombard us with advertisement in every possible way, and in every single publication. They covered the entire front and back page of the newspaper, and they even have an advertisement about the Aurion which covers half of the front page of the F1 racing magazine. Apparently this Aurion has ‘’moved the large car game forward’’

It gets better still, when the current generation of Toyota Hilux was launched in Australia, Toyota created this ‘’new ‘’car segment called the ‘’SAV” or Sports Active Vehicle, and said the Hilux was the “world first SAV’’. Great job Toyota

However the final criticism is reserved for Lexus and their Hybrids. Have you wonder why hybrid drivers and owners are perceived as ignorant and arrogant. Have you ever wonder why they drive around with a massive dose of self righteousness ? I came across this ad in a Hong Kong magazine, this might provide the answer.

If you can’t read what it says, here it is

“Thanks to the RX400h! LEXUS Hybrid Drive is now the cutting-edge champion of green automotive technology for tomorrow, reflecting our sincere dedication to keeping skies blue, This masterpiece of engineering blends the advantages of a powerful V6 24 VVT-i engine that outperforms a V8 4.0 L, providing maximum driving pleasure while creating a cleaner world for our next generation! That is why the RX400h has also qualified for the green car tax incentive, the only luxury SUV granted such a privilege.”

And also it says ''Give more to the driver, take less from the world''

Yes……Toyota want us to believe their 3.5 V6 out performs a 4.0L V8, like the one in the M3….

I don't think I need to say anything else.

I just don't know what the hell are they thinking, the ad was on at mid night, so they think they can get away with it.

This is nothing compare to the crap they wrote about the Lexus RX400h

I don't like hybrid anyways and still perceive diesel to be the best choice for an overall lower fuel consumption, or in many cases opting for an inferior engine. An LS600h most likely consume signifigantly more fuel than an S350.

Here in the UK, our F1 broadcaster has lost the contract to another channel who promise no adverts and also Whole interviews. The company currently doing our F1 coverage for the past 11 years is terrible. Missing interviews all the time etc. Extended advertisments.

Roll on next year

I heard, ITV lost to BBC 2 right? You think yours is bad, ours is even worse, the only interviews we get to see is those post race interviews, and they might show it, might not. They delay the race broadcast by 1.5 to 2 hours, sometimes up to 3 hours. We only began to get qualifying coverage last year, and they have to delay it by a massive 6 hours, thats right, instead of showing the qualifying at 10pm local time, they show it at 4am.

Thank god I stream it from the net.

Ours is not delated but just as bad as the interviews. Someties you just get the winner, sometimes no-one

You are right, the the British Broadcasting Company has won the contract well done

I'm in Japan... F1 race broadcasted by fuji TV are 5 minutes of race 10 minutes of commercial. And at the end of the race they skip the podium to interview Takuma Sato (the moron that finish races... sometimes...)

LOL monster, I saw this add the other day as well and just chuckled to myself. Lexus/Toyota marketing is SO infuriating sometimes. But it’s not just in the media that they lie so blatantly. Even Lexus dealers I’ve visited have been so ridiculous as to suggest certain features were 'invented' by Lexus. Now someone else may believe them, which is the infuriating part, but luckily I was able to say, "Sorry, but you are talking S***". But much more diplomatically obviously.
