I think Audi has the youngest buyers because of its revised front corporate grille. My dad didn't really like it when he first saw it, and he doesn't adore it even now, but he sees the other merits of the car which won over him in the end. Audi doesn't really appeal to the older set IMO - this is where MB might come in.

Yes, well some background information. Mercedes in Singapore has been overtaken by BMW for a few years already. MB is very angry because they held pole position for many decades and they lost their crowning glory in the local market only recently. So now, they're coming up with reasons for their lacklustre performance... All of which we know, of course, is to cover up their reliability and quality issues which caused an exodus of buyers to Audi and BMW (in Singapore's context at least). At least now the situation is finally reversing with healthy sales of the W221 and the W204.

BMW ans Audi has always have a more youthful image than the MB and the higher pricetags on the MB cars have also been another push factor.

I don't agree with that. Un-obtainable... that's what they said about the 911 and M3.

None of the 3 brands will make the exact same cars, but they'll be pretty damn close.

Since when was Lexus thought of as a traditional luxury brand, it's only be around for just over 15 years!

This article doesn't surprise me, MB owners have always been older!

You're right.

It remains to be seen whether the new C class will take some of these younger prestige car buyers away from Audi and BMW.

Re: Younger buyers heading for BMW and Audi over Mercedes

Agreed that this article is no surprise but let's hope the new C will sway some younglings in MB's direction, because once the baby boomers vanish, MB sales will drop dramatically unless they can restock their buyer pipeline.

To be quite honest, for me, most of the "cheaper" MBs have been uninspiring for the past good few years... I've never been a fan of the C, M and E classes, and let's not even mention the A and B minivans. I've always loved MB highend cars... but like in the article, they are usually out of reach unless you're older.

Again, I hope the new C will change that!

Re: Younger buyers heading for BMW and Audi over Mercedes

is it really that bad to have older buyers?
hell they use the cars with care.. so that the second hand owner can even enjoy a near mint car.. and with that cant find much wrong..
while youger drivers often drive the shit outta the cars.. and sell them..

who cars.. young money.. old money.. just get the money..

Yeah, but that doesn't make good business sense.

Re: Younger buyers heading for BMW and Audi over Mercedes

It's interesting, chatting to my dad, he said he would never own a BMW, doesn't like the image, doesn't think Audis are any better than VWs, or at least not worth the increase in price but would consider a Mercedes. He's 51 by the way!
