| Are super cars safe? -
11-21-2005, 10:07 AM
Lately I have seen pictures of wrecked super cars and what I have found out is pretty interesting. Most of the wrecked cars are indeed really wrecked and others have been torn into pieces. As many of you know these cars consist of many light weight materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre and accoring to manufcaturers carbon fibre has been said to be nearly as "strong steel.
Yes carbon fibre is indeed good at abrosing engery by breaking into thousands of peices but what about the people sitting inside the car. Do they want to get carbon fibre pieces in their face? No. Do they want to be protected by a strong framework? Yes. And from what I have seen the framwork of some of the 500k dream cars can't withstand high speed crashes with poles or similar objects. How come these cars are a part of the Euro NCAP tests? | | | | | Aficionado

the problem with supercars, is IMO SPEED! With a supercar you can crash at very high speeds, that you can't achieve with a "normal" car. ANd if you crash at a very high speed, then even if you drive a tank, it will get wrecked and you 'll fing yourself playing chess with your grand-grand-father at Heaven... | | | | | Enthusiast

Supercars are safe. It's the drivers I am more concerned about.
Buyers of these types of vehicles really should be taught to drive them properly by professionals. If I was fortunate enough to own a supercar, then I certainly would take a driving course - then I could get the best experience out of the car and understand it much better.
A Zonda, CGT, Enzo, or Murcielago is not like an M3 or CLS55 - that power needs to be respected. | | | | | Connoisseur

I think that those who have supercars have this feeling of supremacy behind the wheel, "god behind the wheel" if you will. Just because you can afford the car, doesn't mean you know how to drive it | | | | | Connoisseur

I feel that once they get moving they cant control it nor stop it. Hard too handle a car with so much torque. It literally pulls right from under you... It takes time for the logical driver to adjust. | | | | | Connoisseur

On the few occasions drivng a C55(not a super car, but a car w/ a crap load of power for what it is), it's very easy to drive, and easy to drive FAST, the car is stupid fast! To get to the point, I rememeber at one point launching at a green light and the rear wheels had started to spin(the ground was a bit cold) and soon as I actually took off there was a delay from 1 to 2, there was a slight jerk and the front passenger flew into the side the door. LoL, nothing serious, but enough to get me thinking to try and keep my sanity even though it's so easy to drive this car so fast. | | | | | Devotee

You can push the pedal few times, on the local roads also, but not to be really crazy and go + 300 km/h on the local road.
I like the fast driving and I enjoy it but it's very dangerous...

But if a bastard comes from the opposite direction and crashes on you, what is going to happen? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
