^^Hello Monster,

So is the Grange the replacement of the old Holden Statesman?

Is this the car Prime Minister Rudd will be using?

...and does Ford Australia still build the Fairlaine and LTD models?

Hey Rob, I am surprised that you know about our new Prime Minister as well as the Ford Fairlaine and LTD. Sadly Ford has stop the production of both cars because of the lack of sales and the fact that the much newer Holden has dominated the tiny local made luxury car segment.

The Grange is basically the HSV version of the Statesman. It is similar to what AMG does to the S-class.

The new Holden Statesman was launched mid last year and the PM gets driven in the Statesman or the Caprice, which is basically a Statesman with sports suspension and bigger alloys.

Re: Edmunds First Drive: 2007 HSV Grange

^ Your not wrong... I just noticed that - quite similar especially the headlights

The Caprice etc are very nice cars except for the overly long and fat ass... Looks alot worse then whats glued on the BMW and the S Class... and they didn't even go for the Bangle butt

Re: Aussie performance cars

I see a lot of Audi influence in the Statesman - third rear windows, gauges. Otherwise, it is a fine looking car. I've always been a fan of Aussie muscle.

What's the difference between SS and HSV?

Re: Aussie performance cars

about 37kW to be exact - its similar to the BMW 550i and the M5

HSV is the sports brand like ///M and AMG and RS for Audi

just for the record, KR himself drives a Toyota Prius

And you may know better but while Howard was in office he was still getting driven in both Fairlanes and the older Statesman - I doubt the Prime Minister's office get new cars every election so I assume KR will be getting driven in the same for a little while yet.

Re: Aussie performance cars

Anyone remember the Bolwell Nagari?
A very pretty (particularly in convertible form) fibreglass 2 seater that absolutely FLEW with a 351 in it. Really rare these days, I expect.

Bolwell Returns to Australian Muscle Car Scene

At Melbourne Motor Show

The Bolwell brothers (Campbell, Winston and Graeme) started building kit cars in the sixties only to move into production cars in the early 70's with the Bolwell Nagari (or Mk VIII). The brothers built 140 units in total between 1969 and 1972, of which just thirteen cabriolets.

In 1979 an attempt was made to re-start producing cars again, but even though the Bolwell Ikara was received well only 10 units were ever built. The brothers then focussed on their core business of industrial fibre glass work.

But 2008 should signal in the triumphant return of the Bolwell brothers with a new, modern version of the Bolwell Nagari (which is an aboriginal word menaing flowing). The new Nagari is based on a mid-engine carbon fibre composite monocoque coupe body, powered by a quad-cam supercharged Toyota 3.5 liter V6.

Performance is impressive with a 0 – 100 km/h time of just 4 seconds while the cars weighs just 900 kg. The all-wishbone suspension supplies ultra-soft springing with lots of control for large suspension movement and fine handling. The interior can comfortably seat two adults (upto 195 cm tall) and is described as 'sensible'.

Say tuned for more, the Melbourne Motor Show will take place late February 2008.
