I also think that R36 will have at least 300 hp. The 3.6 lt model in US already had 280 hp so R36 will have more than that.

Re: Spy Pics: VW Passat R36

The VR 3.2l engine always had and always will have 184kW, the equivalent to 250hp! If there was a special edition I might be wrong, but I am 100% certain about the original one.

The new one, I think, will get 300hp in the highest powered version.

btw: sorry for the confusing "R36 will have 280hp" post...just ignore it

I think VW should aim for 300hp
Well the engine could have officially 280 HP, but in reality more. Just see the 335i tread.

Germans have a habit of undersating some figures due to severl reasons, taxes being one of them.

And the Japanese (mainly Toyota) have the habit of overstating figures. Mainly power and fuel economy ones.

I remember some years ago when a Greek car magazine put head to head Audi A4 (B6) 2.0 lt and Lexus IS200. Audi was supposed to have 130 hp but the dyno showed around 140 and the Lexus was supposed to have 155 hp but the dyno showed around 144. So in theory the two cars had 25 hp difference but in reality the difference was only 4 hp.

PS. No need to say that A4 had won the comparo.
