To put things into perspective, the Panamera turbo with decent amount of options added will cost you similar to what you would pay for a Mercedes S63 AMG.

Well then, what am I missing here? Surely a Panamera Turbo with options should cost more than an S63 AMG?

^ it should if its aimed at that car..
but i think most have a feeling that its made to dethrone M5/E63 and such...
In that case its to expensive..
and if its made to dethrone S63 and S8 well then i dont undertstand what took them so long cause those cars arent exactly great at handling..

Yes I'm a bit confused about the fuss. While it does seem like highway robbery when you have to tick so many option boxes, but the end result doesn't seem so bad?

I would certainly consider a nicely equipped turbo over the AMG.

I simply hate when products are not optimal off the rack and the Panamera is a prime example of that. In order for the Panamera S to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds you need to buy PDK and Sports Chrono Plus. It's not only the options that make the difference, BMW will offer a credit crunch size discount on the M5 and Porsche will offer their usual 0% discount. Welcome to the world of Porsche pricing!

The real problem with the option list, is that it's not at all gratifying to have to actually PAY for a wiper. It's much better to have a higher price tag, INCLUDING the wiper.

That's why S-Classes don't come with no radio any more, like it was the case few years ago. That was good when the radio was pretty much the only available extra.

Now with zillions of gizmos, it's really a negative point to have to browse the option list and pay for a million things. And to discover your car comes with a huge number of fake buttons nonetheless.

Options add profitability. Porsche (the bastards

) started it and the rest of the premium German makers cottoned on pretty quick.

See that big cash cow on the lawns of the wealthy? No one knows how to milk it better than Porsche. That's the predominant reason behind them being the most profitable car maker in the world.
