Compared to the Cayman or even 911, this is just ugly, in my view, especially in the rear. I seriously doubt the final version will look anything like this. I suspect this is more likely a fake-out version, for the start of production is still too far off in the future. The Mercedes 4-door "coupé", overpriced though it may be, is much nicer in the styling category than this Porsche vehicle.

Re: Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

0-62 in 4.2 second sounds terrific but not unexpected since Porsche has planed to take the world by storm with this car. I have heard that the top version will be pushing around 600hp which isn't a surprise since the RS6 and upcoming E-class AMG will be stepping up the game until the Panamera arrives in 2009.

I have also found out that the car will be larger than an E-class and 5er. The length will probably be close to the A6 but I have also found out that it will be very wide. It does look pretty big in the spyshots. With that being said it will not a light weight dancer.

Re: Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

I think the styling will be spot-on. What I'm not sure about is weather or not the market will materialize for this car. Sure, the CLS has done alright, but it's more of a sporty alternative to the E-Klasse than it is a sedan-ified alternative to any Mercedes Coupe. Right now, the raw appeal of this car and the Aston Martin Rapide seems to be something like "Hey ladies, this sportscar has two extra doors! Is that crazy or what?" So I'm sure there will be tons of initial orders, but I skeptical about how much demand can be sustained once the novelty wears off.

As an alternative to a 911, it seems like a dubious proposition over the long haul. However, if its positioned as a sexier, more aggressive alternative to the BMW 550i Porsche might really be on to something.

Re: Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

The rear seems to take a lot of cues from the Quattroporte.

This car will surely sell like hotcakes and top the market, like all Porsches do. But I want to see something special for it to compete in this segment - I doubt I would though...

A size comparison with the coming E-class AMG. Both will be unveiled around the same times.

Re: Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

Here are latest photos of Porsche’s new four-door model, Panamera, on its way to the main entrance of the Nürburgring race track. The prototype has finally shed some of its camouflage revealing more design and body panel details. Although accent lines in the outer doors panels and front and rear bumper fascias are still covered, we can see other details emerging such as an elongated taillight and front headlamp shape. But the most interesting detail is how Porsche managed to incorporate the rear quarter panel glass shape of the current 911 model into the rear door of the Panamera. As a result, it gives the Panamera a stealthier fastback appearance instead of a more mundane four-door saloon configuration. If you look at the side profile photo long enough you start to forget there's a rear door there.

Porsche Panamera details:

*

Code name: G 1
*

Porsche’s first front engined, rear drive four door sedan
*

4x4 as an option
*

Engine: 400 HP 4.8 liter 4V per cylinder V8
*

Top of range Panamera Turbo with 520 HP
*

Top speed 180 mph
*

Release: 2010
*

Hybrid version planned for 2011
*

Production begins 08.2009 in Porsche’s Leipzig plant
*

20.000 units per year
*

35% for the US market
*

Price: between Eur 80.000 and Eur 125.000
