Re: Official: New Opel Insignia - 04-15-2008, 09:49 AM

is this the new F01, chrome handles and that bending crease haha ,

yeah, i think they did a good job, a bit too bulky looking for my liking, but the the VXR will look as awesome as ever. Interior is quite nice, i guess their going for a new direction now, materials look ok but i think they chose to put a bit too much wood on the dashboard and near the windscreen.

Also, i sense that they've become used alot of BMW esque touches in there design such as Shark fin, shaped bootlid, hoffmeister kink.
Just noticed they've decided to put the indicator back on the wing and not on the door mirror

Re: Official: New Opel Insignia - 04-15-2008, 09:57 AM

Refreshingly good looking car this! The front echoes some of the Toyota Camry lines which IMO is a good thing since the Camry has a pretty face. The wrap-around front lights, coupled with the up-front yet not too dominating grille works very well for the Insignia.

The rear on the other hand is a bit of a mish-mash of lines and shapes. The protruding curvy spoiler contrasts with the sharp angular lines of the lights, bumper and chrome strip... and the circular exhausts tips further create a sense of incohesion of lines and shapes. Many new cars seem to have this theme of very soft, smooth frontal design, while the rear is made up of angular lines to create a chiseled look. Seems incohesive in my mind, but I'm sure many like it.

The side profile also seems good, though the car does seem to have a bit too much overhang past the front axle, which apart from detracting the car's handling ability also creates an unbalanced look.
Also looks like we have another Hoffmeister-kink wanna-be...but hey, I guess some car companies have realised that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em when it comes to BMW's signature roofline.

Interior is quite nice as many have said.. not overly stylish, but at the same time not bland and unimaginative. Sure build quality is a bit lacking in some parts, but then again, this car doesn't compete with the S-class & Co. ...so no need to evaluate the car's build quality on the same scale. Not sure the sporty-styled steering wheel fits in well with the MB CLS-inspired dash...and the same with the instrumentation design which seems overdone with the protruding 'hood-like' feature that you might find in all-out sportscars.

Overall the cars seems to be struggling to create a definitive identify as it attempts to blend luxury and sportiness in a variety of ways. For its class it sure is a step-up, so gotta give props to Opel for that!

That's a fairly smart looking car. It's not making any bold statements to turn anybody off, but it's a handsome car in its own right. Interior is lovely, moreso when that one little plastic seam get sured up. This will make one HECK of a Saturn, though, and I don't think the US is going to know what hit them when this hits dealerships.

"That's a Saturn?! No friggin' way! It's good looking, not cheapo plastic and comes with pretty and well finished interior bits!"

Ho hum. In my opinion the car is completely anonymous. You could slap on a Kia or a Hyundai badge and no one would know the difference or even care.

That's actually quite a nice looking car. It's not a WOW car but it's definitely not bland either. Dare I say it looks quite elegant.

Rearlights, from every angle remind a lot on CL's rearlights...

Re: Official: New Opel Insignia - 04-15-2008, 02:53 PM

Hmmm... I'm slightly disappointed, really. It's not bad looking but I was expecting to be more striking and not a mishmash of other saloon styling elements. There is a pinch of BMW 5-Series, Ford Mondeo, Jaguar XF, Lexus IS and Toyota Camry. But the result is rather anonymous, actually. It's not ugly, it's just... not there.

And what's with so many buttons on the dashboard? Geez... Opel missed the boat again! In this days and age, most manufacturers are reducing the numbers of buttons on the dashboard in order to simplify the whole operation of the car as well making the user's life easier; Opel comes along in 2008 and gives us a dashboard with more buttons than a motel bed!
