Is the car sanctioned by Daimler AG (Mercedes Benz)? I can't see how they might let some private firm from nowhere to take their most prized model and start remaking them. Also, I wonder how would the car be sold as it would most definitely fail most safety and design legislations and rules in force around the world today. Can anyone shed any light on this? Perhaps someone knowledgeable of the 'new' Ford GT40s or AC Cobras still being produced today. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Interesting points... (I asked the very same questions about the Panamericana). Concerning crashes, cars sold in very small numbers have no mandotory crashes to pass if I'm not mistaken. Could be wrong though. Concerning MB's approval... If the car is allowed to bear the star, it means MB approves it. If not, they don't. Simple as that. Rememeber back in the 80's, only AMG among all the tuners had the right to keep the star (before they were swallowed by Daimler). The AC Cobra is made by the same company BTW (Gullwing GmbH), which also furnished the basis for the Panamericana.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wow what a gorgeous replica! ![]() Usually I'm not such a fan of replicas but this one looks fantastic. A legendary classic with modern technologies. No bad starts anymore, very reliable for everyday use with modern days comfort with the flair of the original. And that the car can be serviced by a Mercedes dealer is a plus. The only 'flaws' I could find in the replica is that the car sits a bit too high on its wheels and that the windshield wipers are facing the other side and is lacking a blue/silver Mercedes badge at the front of the hood compared to the original. With a limited 30 units a year worldwide, the car still remains very rare as it should be. As coolraoul pointed out, having the Mercedes badge pretty much indicates that it has been approved by Mercedes. Aside of that, their replicas are equipped with the most recent 3.5L V6 or 5.5l V8 engine with manual or 7G transmission and electronics by Mercedes, which pretty much confirms Mercedes' approval and it being the supplier. Further more I assume that this replica wouldn't be approved having the Mercedes badge if it was a bad quality replica. If I had the money my choice would be a 3.5 V6 manual in gullwing and in roadster form. ![]() ![]() ![]() | I hope this replica will be faithful in every respect. It certainly looks amazing upon first glance. I hope they will improve on the known flaws of the interior of the original Gullwing. Ingress/Egress, space, legroom, ventilation, etc. I hope this will be built in Right Hand Drive. It shouldn't be difficult given the Mercedes mechanicals used are engineered and made for both RHD and LHD. This is indeed excellent news! |
