Even at first glance I could immediately tell there was something wrong with it. That front looks completely different from a standard 300SL Gullwing. Plus those sound woofers in the door compartment gave it away as a replica.

Yeah, in fact the whole car looks shorter but bit higher (not only because it sits high), so you can tell it's a replica. It is not as gracile as the original, bit more massive.

But a very very nice replica, with a special mention for the awesome interior.

I love that thing!! Stunning!

In the EU, there are two types of type approval. There's the "proper" EU-wide approval, which means that you can sell as many cars as you like in any of the member countries. Then there's the small-series approval (or single vehicle approval), which is given by an individual country and allows the registration of a single vehicle or a small batch of cars. The regulations for this type of approval are slightly relaxed in most countries. This is how many of the small-volume manufacturers get their cars on the road and it also enables grey or personal import of cars from the USA or Japan.

Some replica manufacturers base their cars on the platform of an existing car, I remember there being someone in Germany making Gullwings by replacing the body on W124s or W126s... in that case the car would have the identity of the donor car.
