What do you think, knowing that it would sit in the street (I have only one garage and the SLC is in it...) and that 3.000€ is the absolute limit?
W123 all the way.

The best petrol W123 is considered by many to be the 230E - a nice blend between performance and fuel economy. The 200's and 230 are sluggish and thirsty, the 250 is extremely thirsty and the engine was designed specifically for export to North Africa and the Middle East (you won't find many of them in Europe). The 280 and 280E are fast but thirsty too.

The best diesel 123 is a tie between the 300D and the 300D Turbodiesel, the latter of which was only sold in Europe in T-Modell form (while North America got the sedans and estates and coupes).

There is something about the W124 design that is timeless. Can't get enough of this car. A true mercedes legend

The W124, specifically the 500E/E500 version will likely be the greatest Mercedes of all time in my book. The W124 in general was such the car and remained so for a decade.

I would go for 190E 2.3 or 190D 2.5. 190E 2.3-16 would be great but costs more.
If not those, then W124 300/320E or diesel

You already have the OLD W107 so I would not go with the W123, I would go with one that was a newer design.

Yes i think a 190 2.5D could be an excelent solution. However they're quite rare aren't they?
maybe a 190D, this s an good idea. I'm going to consider it too.

I'd love a W123, but i think yoiu're right, I already have an ancient car, so as a daily driver a 124 or a 201 make more sense.

I concur with this statement. Of course, my dad also used to have a 190E so I'm biased. LOL

Of course, that W124 great, but I have a weak spot for the W123. My dad's friend has an imported W123 from Germany. Just awesome!
