Question 1965 MB 190D help!

I need help. We found a beautiful 1965 MB 190D on the side of the road for sale at $300. It is in wonderful shape physically. The problem we have is that there is no motor in the car. I want this as a project car badly and the ONLY way my husband will let me have it is if I can find a motor. I cannot find one. What is a compatible motor for this car or is there one? Someone told me to put a 305 in it but I don't think that would work. Please let me know soon!

Hummm don't think I could help you!

Maybe you could send "Cawimmer430" a PM, he will have lot of contacts with Mercedes specialists due to him being a collector, well his family

Re: 1965 MB 190D help!

What you can't figure out how to get him to let you buy it???
I think it would not be too hard to get him to cave. Happy wife = happy home.
I think you could get plenty of motors to fit. Most likely the best fits would be 4 cylinders and I6. Just find one that either has little or no control modules.
I wouldn't try and find one of the engines it came with, I would find a newer engine with more HP.
Good luck.

Re: 1965 MB 190D help!

Hello,

Your best chance of getting a replacement engine is contacting the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Stuttgart, Germany. These guys are well-equipped to either locate an original replacement engine in their stock for you or connect you with people who can such as junkyards in Europe or even in the United States.

The original engine in the 1961-1965 190D (190Dc) was the OM 621 III.

Classic Center: Mercedes-Benz Classic - Home - Classic Center

3. Is there a hotline?
You’ll reach our customer portal under +49 (0) 711/17-84040.

Here is their website for "spare parts".

Mercedes-Benz Classic - Home - Classic Center - Spare parts retail

Another method, a cheaper method, would be to contact some regional or domestic W110 Mercedes Fintail or Mercedes Clubs. There are a lot of enthusiast in these clubs and even experts on a particular car and they can possibly even get you a better deal.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions and we'll do our best to help out.

Some technical data on the car in question. It's pretty much self-explanatory and you don't need to speak German to understand it.
