I don't think too many armoured W123s exist. The Vatican had a few armoured mid-sized Mercedes Benz of that era, but they were not W123s. I would love to find one of those 6.3s, but the only place I can see those being sold is at auction.

The owner of the 240D called me last evening. He is willing to go down to $9,500. I went to $8,000. He has a deal if he goes down to $8,800.

Update. The owner called again. I think I can make the deal this weekend if I am willing to go a bit higher. However, I found a nice 280E with low mileage!

I haven't been around as I've been very busy recently. The owner still wants $9,500 and his son might take the car off his hands. I actually feel bad for the owner, a really nice elderly gentleman. To him, this car was very symbolic of his 1980s glory years when he had a thriving chemicals and plastics business. He has since fallen on hard times and lost the business altogether so I can totally understand him wanting to keep the car as a memory of what used to be.

On a completely unrelated note, I think it's absurd that honest businesses creating good local jobs are hurt by stupid tax laws while athletes, celebrity-product endorsers getting paid tens of millions for their name have all sorts of avenues to avoid tax! Too many companies spend money on product endorsements without a direct financial benefit and it ultimately comes at employees' expense. Doesn't a famous money losing automobile manufacturer continue to spend $10 million sponsoring some golfer all the while terminating tens of thousands of their own employees? I think it's an abuse for companies to give endorsement money to celebrities and then try to make up that frivolous expense by firing workers that make the products.

Newbie here. Recently started posting a couple of days ago. I love that you all have an appreciation for the W123s. My mom had one when I was a kid and finally bought one of my own about a year ago sight unseen. Flew to Denver and bought her from a guy who had listed on Craigslist. Here is a link to her story...(scroll down to the March W123 of the Month)

Well here's something you don't see every day, a Mercedes-Benz tombstone. I discovered it by chance just surfing the net.

Ray Tse, Jr. fantasized as a teenager about getting a driver's license and owning a luxurious Mercedes Benz. Ray died in 1981 at the age of 15. His desire was posthumously and eerily fulfilled when his millionaire brother, David, commissioned a 36-ton granite memorial sculpted to resemble a full-size 1982 Mercedes Benz 2400 Diesel limousine.

Coincidence? I don't think so. . . Since I share a name with that fella, well, maybe I should opt for a granite Mercedes W123 for my tombstone! I would probably opt for the Euro style headlights on my tombstone though.

Now, where to find that millionaire brother. . .
