Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

Here's the one that was for sale in Hong Kong last year which was restored and modernized by AMG - I really love this one. It is a six door version with the folding seats (some of the six door versions don't have outside door-handles on the middle doors but this one does). I really love these cars but they have to be in good condition - preferably fully restored - but the hydraulics can be troublesome I've heard - which means expen$ive to fix.

BTW cawimmer, Hugh Hefner had a 600 Pullman - since you appear to be following in his footsteps I just thought I would mention that - just kidding

Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

A rare Presidential landaulet ex-Romanian government was listed in auction in Las Vegas at $550,000 U.S. The AMG 600 in Hong Kong that Roberto posted probably sold for at least $4-5 million HK currency. I've seen landaulets seeing for as much as $750,000 U.S. so it fluctuates.

That new MB steering wheel ruins the interior...

Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

I saw a 600 today in a cream color outside of an ice cream parlour. I didn't even have my grainy camera phone on me otherwise I would post a picture. Anyway, I looked closely at the car and it was in great shape, but the paint was looking a bit faded. The owner caught me looking at his car and asked if I was even alive when the 600 was built. He showed me the interior and it had a glass division in it. He bought the car used in the 1980s, originally based in Vancouver. I've seen pictures of 600s, this was the SWB not the Pullman, with the glass division and the rear seat looked very cramped. How common was the division in the 600?

I have yet to see a W220 or W140 S-class with a division installed. There are a few comparatively short limousines based on the S-Class with the division. Has the S600 Pullman been killed? I'd like to see a S600 Pullman in the new body style. I probably wouldn't like it, but I'd love to see Mercedes make a go of it.

Lucky you 450SEL 6.9, I don't think the division in the SWB version was very common at all - I have only ever seen one with the divider (about 10 years ago)

If Mercedes do decide to build a Pullman version of the W221, I certainly hope it is better than the W220 version. The W221 might prove to be a difficult car for after-market "stretchers" to convert because of the dynamic lines in the body - to keep the body lines flowing smoothly will require a more gradual gradient (or more accurately, a longer curve) because of the increased length of the body - to correct this problem properly would require new body panels - and that does sound expensive.
