Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

There were two types of open-top landaulet versions - the normal landaulet and the Presidential landaulet; the difference is the Presidential landaulet's rear compartment has a folding-roof that opens over all the rear seats - the Presidential version is much rarer, it might be what you are reffering to.

Landaulet with standard folding roof.

Presidential Landaulet has a longer soft-roof.

Also the Pope's Landaulet was a special one-off version.

Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

The 600 is a really fantastic automobile. I think there were 10 Presidential Long Top Landaulets built. They pop up in auctions here and there. Roberto, that's a great picture of the papal landaulet. The Vatican has many other Mercedes, unique and one-off vehicles. They have a parade vehicle based on the W126 SEL. Pope Benedict used one of the W126 Benz sedans during his first outing since his election.

Yes BMW Dude, Jay Kay does have a 600. I saw that episode of Fifth Gear where he, Tiff and Vickie race around his estate. The 600 he has is a 4-door Pullman limousine. The limousine also comes in 6-door. His car is for sale. http://www.avromotorcars.co.uk/car00...r00029full.htm

As Roberto already knows, I'm a fan of armoured vehicles. If anyone sees any auctions for armoured Mercedes, BMW or Audi, please post the website. I'm also a fan of the 450SEL 6.9 and I tried to acquire one in Toronto a few months ago. I was able to find a genuine 6.9, but the car was in such poor condition that I had to pass.

Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

*I was right, there were just 7 of Mercedes 600 Landaulet made.
Tito had 2, Boris Živkov (ex Bulgarian pres.) had 1, the Sultan of Brunei, the queen of Netherlands, Romanian dictator Ceausuescu and The Mercedes factory had also 1.

There was also just one car made with 2 doors, it's named Mercedes 600 Nallinger, after technical director of MB.

Re: The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

dOmInIx, there were 59 Landaulets made. The seven you are referring to are Presidential versions with the long-top. Where did you find that information? I have read different numbers. Most of the sources I've found say 10 Presidential Landaulets, but I think your information may be correct. The Vatican's 600 landaulet can also be considered a Presidential version because it has a longer soft-top. I think Prince Rainier and Queen Elizabeth also had landaulets, but I'm not sure if they are the long-top version.

The Nallinger Coupe is the only official two-door. There are others like the KHM done by independent builders. There is also a short-wheelbase landaulet.

Yes, I'm reffering to the Presidental Landaulet with six doors and with no -back- roof...(I get these infos from one auto-magazine)

There are 3 versions of Mercedes 600: The standard one and the Pullman with 4 and/or six doors...All three models had their Landaulet version.
Production: Mercedes 600 -2190
Mercedes 600 Pullman -487
Mercedes 600 Pullman -7
