Audi tradition makes two new acquisitions...

AUDI Tradition’s collection of historical vehicles now has two more entrants that have been added. The historical department of AUDI AG is happy to announce two special new acquisitions for its collection of historic vehicles with the Horch 420 and a Horch 830 BL. These two luxury automobiles of the 1930s era each have a story to tell.

The Horch 420 is particularly rare and thus quite valuable. World-wide, there are only known to be three remaining examples of this 4.5-liter Cabriolet. This 1931 example followed an adventurous route to its new home in Ingolstadt. Like so many Horch cars, this 420 saw the end of World War II as a "piece of war booty" and was shipped to the USA. In the 1970s, the 90-hp Cabriolet found its way to England, where it was sold to a native of Munich in 1979 at an auction. This Horch belongs to the famous 400-series of Horches from the 1930s.

Quote:
The second car, a four-door Horch 830 BL Sedan Cabriolet was built in 1939. In contrast to the 420, it is propelled by a V8 motor. Since the 830 BL was frequently used by the armed forces as a staff car, only a few of these models remain. The particular car acquired originated with the former GDR and came into the West when the Berlin wall still stood. The previous owner, a Hamburg resident, moved the car through the iron curtain separated into parts. With 92-hp, this Horch was restored over a period of two years by Horch specialist Werner Zinke in Saxonian Zwoenitz.

The four rings of the Audi brand symbolzes the marques Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer, which were all part of the Auto Union. Auto Union and NSU, which merged in 1969, shaped the development of the automobile considerably.

In1985 AUDI NSU Auto Union AG was created and later Audi AG. Audi Tradition maintains maintains and presents the history of Auto Union GmbH and NSU GmbH as part of the broad Audi history. The Audi Museum Mobile within the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt is open from Monday to Sunday from 9AM to 6PM.
