Going to buy a new computer tomorrow! - 06-16-2008, 12:41 PM

My parents are going to help me out on this since my museum job pays me crap.

Here are the specs:

Acer Aspire 8920G-934G64BN

Windows Vista® Ultimate, Intel® Centrino® Prozessortechnologie mit Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Prozessor T9300 (6MB L2 Cache/ 2.5GHz/ 800MHz FSB) - Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipsatz - Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, 18.4" Acer CineCrystal Full HD WUXGA TFT Display (8ms), NVIDIA® GeForce 9650M-GS bis 1.280MB TurboCache™ (512MB DDR3 VRAM dediziert, bis zu 768MB shared), 4.096MB (2*2GB) DDR2, 640GB S-ATA HDD (2*320GB), Blu-ray Disc™ Laufwerk mit DVD-SuperMulti, WLAN 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N, Bluetooth, Fingerprint, Acer CrystalEye Webcam

Price @ Media Markt = Euros 1,899

640 GB Harddrive a GeForce graphics card! Just what I need! Now I can take LARGE and HIGH QUALITY pictures without my Dell crapping out on me!

By the way, will Adobe Photoshop 7.0 work in Windows Vista? I am too cheap to buy Adobe Photoshop CS since it's so expensive...

Wow man that seems to be a stunning machine . That is one big HDD you've got there, and a lot of memory to which is good. Be sure to buy a virus protection program with it, it will help you enjoy it for a long time.

Great!!! After all the misery you had with your old Dell, this is going to be a hell of machine. Any chances of working for a car dealer?! Maybe you are able to earn more money there!!

First thing I am going to do when I hook her up to the Internet.

I selected this machine because I work a lot with pictures and photoshop and this machine can handle large files. My older Dell M60 sort off froze a little when I tried to edit pictures above 3000 x ____ @ high quality from my Nikon.

Can't wait until tomorrow! Thanks mom and dad!

Thanks.

I hear Acer's tend to be very reliable so that's the reason I'm going for it. Plus Media Markt will offer a good service deal on it too.

As for my Dell...I'll give it to a local technician who likes to create new computers out of old ones. Maybe he can do something out of it. Personally I've always wanted my old Dell M60 to be converted into a urinal for personal home use.

I had problems too my my last notebook... So I chose a Toshiba, I've been said often it's very reliable (hope it's true). So far it's working perfectly fine. However, with an absolutely crappy Intel GME graphic card (128 shared), 1GB RAM and quite slow double-core processor, I can't say it's flying...

Take Avast Antivirus, it's free, very efficient, and does not slow your computer down like the shitty Norton. Even if it's a free antivirus it's rated higher than a lot of very expensive ones (including Norton of course)...

I use Firefox, find it faster and more secure than Explorer. And soon the Firefix 3.0 will come...

Noted! Will check out that anti-virus software tonight.

I also use Firefox. More efficient and easier to use and doesn't hang as often as IE.

Don't buy Acer mate. I had two in the past and both had problems. In the first one battery died after 2 months and the second refused to turn on after a while.

Now i have an HP but Toshiba makes the most reliable laptops (although more expensive than the rest).

Acer is pretty low on the list of laptop brands I'd recommend. I'd strongly encourage you to consider Sony, HP, Toshiba and even Apple before pulling the trigger on that Acer.
