Yesterday afternoon after work I quickly went to a local Norma store to buy some food. As I prepare to leave this helpless-looking old lady approaches me and asks me if I know anything about cars and if I can help her with her car.

I tell her I do and asked what the problem was. She tells me she just bought a new car and she can't get the automatic transmission from P into R or D. The parking lot was pretty empty so I figured her car was the smokesilver Mercedes B180 CDI in the far corner. I ask her if it is the B-Class and she says "Ja".

We get to the car, I start it up, step on the brake and put the transmission from P into R and then into D. Works fine. Looks like grandma forgot to step on the brake or something.

She sounded like a very confused or forgetful woman. Anyway, I told her to keep the brake pedal depressed when changing gears while the car is parked. I made sure she did this and saw her drive off.

I should have told her there is something seriously wrong with the car. She should lend it to me for a week and I will fix it!

Would have given me the chance to drive a B-Class again! LOL

Great, that you could help her!!

Glad you helped her, but I'm worried that it might be time for her to hang up the keys. We have a similar problem here in the U.S. with older drivers and this is something that will be an issue for everyone sooner or later.

I always wondered how she managed to drive the car into the parking lot in the first place. Especially when she left her home. She needed to get from "P" into "R" / "D" and that involves stepping on the brake pedal.
