Well I could use some opinions to at least guide myself.
We currently have a 36,000 BTU/h LG wall split unit to cool down the house (Don't ask me for any measurements because I don't have any at hand) and well after the Corsica, this has been our worst case of wasted money. It seems the unit came from the factory with the wrong compressor, the company replaced it under warranty (after making us wait weeks, and this is a very humid country and this house doesn't have windows that we can just open up because they open towards the inside like a door rather than just upwards so it needs to be constantly air conditioned) and to our surprise the "certified technician" from LG apparently didn't clean out the whole system before installing the new compressor and so the new compressor was cooked. And from there one it went from fan motors, to circuit boards to other compressors to the point where they took away the whole condensing unit to their shop, where they apparently did near to nothing as it broke down and also started to drip water inside. After many other messes including having another wrong compressor installed (a 42,000 for a 36,000 unit), the parents took this to the court.
Now, because of the legal actions to take place, there were two offers:
1) The store that sold it to us said there have been many problems with those (no wonder the salesmen of all the places seemed to be about to beg us to just take one away) and they offered an newer and improved 36,000 model that uses two compressors (apparently a big one to cool down and a small one when the purpose is keeping the temperature constant), but instead of an usual 5 year warranty we will be given a ridiculous three month warranty. And we'll still have to install yet another unit in the other corner of the house to aid cooling (we're still talking $700.00 and up for something like a 24,000 BTU unit).
Of course, since our light bills are near enough the $1000 and this country is facing a possible energetic crisis due to unmeasured growth without improvements to the electrical system, where programmed blackouts would be a very possible reality to contrast the ever increasing electrical consumption, the signs of locals are already required to be turned off after 11PM except on Fridays and Saturdays where they have to be turned off at 1AM. So what we need now is to increase even more our energetic consumption.
No go with this choice.
2) We're offered a 48,000 BTU York unit, where we would only pay the difference of the original price minus what we spent on the LG air conditioner. It's ceiling-mounted I bet, which didn't please my mom before when we were looking for a replacement for our central units because she claimed they were ugly (without having even looked at them), but the thing also can't be more inefficient than the current unit we have cooling at about half of it's capacity and whose pressure rises too much due to the overly large compressor, making it a real mess.
My dad and I both liked the ceiling-suspended unit idea, but my mom's bickering on how the wall one looked prettier has basically gotten us into this mess...well that's a rant I should keep for myself.
So here is a picture I got out of the PDF offered by York in their site. Do you have any knowledge on how good or bad these units are?
Forget about noise levels, we live between a main road and an airport...which are about less than 500 metres apart. And sorry if the whole writing is messy and incoherent or annoying to read, it's pretty late but I need quick feedback if there's any available.
