*Computer Experts, Need Urgent Help!* - 04-24-2008, 10:58 AM

I have a problem with my Internet connection that's been really getting on my nerves. The problem is very simple:

My Internet connection will work for about five minutes before (for some reason) "disconnecting" or "hanging". The only way for me to "restart" or "reconnect" it is to either hit the Refresh button multiple times on my browser (Mozilla Firefox). That usually will get it going again. Then after five minutes the connection screws up again and I find myself hitting the refresh button again like mad. Sometimes this will enable my Internet connection to resume, at other times I need to wait in excess of five minutes (I am serious) before this piece of crap connection will resume again. Like just before I wanted to post this my connection stoped working for over 10 minutes (I was ready to throw my computer against the wall, seriously...).

Now, the same problem is also affecting my moms computer (Windows Vista) to a smaller degree, except it isn't as bad as mine. And for the record, my neighbours Internet connection is fine.

The problem started after my mother got her new computer with Vista. Several people who "know a bit about computers" said it might be some sort of software conflict between XP and Vista...

Here are my questions:

1) Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is wrong?

2) Is it a router problem?

3) Is there anything I can do on my computer to fix this problem?

4) Could it really be that there is a conflict between my computer (XP) and my mother's (Vista)?

Thanks.

sounds like a router problem, i had the same prob..
If you restart the router it will be fine..
but on the other hand who has the energy to run and restart the router every 5 min
so afaik you need to change router

A few minutes ago my connection was just dead for over 10 minutes. I went down to the router and beat the sh** out of it by turning it on and off without waiting 20 seconds. But this is the only way it will work!

So I need a new router? Crap!

Wow, my connection just messed up again. I had to "hit" my router twice before the connection resumed.

Thanks for the advice.

ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY TIPS?

Is it safe for me to assume that you are using broadband access?
Is is safe for me to assume that you have a filter connected to the end of the line? Are you connecting your telephone to the same port?
Are both computers on the same network?- If yes, which is the server?
How much memory do you have on your RAM?

For a starter- disconnect your mothers computer from the network to see if the problem persist.

ARGHHH!!! I have this problem as well It is seriously annoying, It's not the connection because the connection is full(I'm on wireless) and it also affects the main computer down stairs I think it is the router because we have a crappy Netgear one which came with "AOL" (Internet provider) so I think I will ask my mother to invest in a decent one or change our Internet provider
