Hey!

I have a web cam and because I got a new computer, my cam doesn't work because i lost the cd with all the drivers on it. I don't know the name of the cam so I can't download the drivers. Does anyone know what to do? E.g some way to by pass the drivers or find another program which will work for any cam.

As far as I know, if you dont know the manufacturer of the webcam and u dont have the drivers, theres not much you can do. Maybe go back to the retailer/supplier you bought the PC from and ask him to burn you a copy of the driver CD.

I'm assuming you running Windows?!

If so open your device manager

• XP: Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device manager
• Vista: Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Hardware Tab > Device manager

If your device is installed physically but without drivers, it should appear as "unknown device" ...

So find it and view its properties (right-click > properties).

If the "Details" tab, select "Device Instance ID" and/or "Hardware ID"... you should het a long alpha-numeric string that looks like this:

• VID = Vendor ID --> 046D is Logitech
• PID = Product ID --> 08DA is QuickCam Messenger
• The rest is additional info like revision, etc.

Do that and copy+paste the string here... from that you can get the manufacturer and device model.

I searched by Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID)

VID_0C45&PID_6270:

• VID_0C45 --> Sonix Technology Co.
• PID_6270 --> SN9C201
