Oh boy! Did somebody say
wristwatches?!
I'm going to make it my personal duty to inflate this thread to 30+ pages...
Anyways, Mirage77 - TAG Heuer make some rather nice watches, and they also make some crummy, almost vulger watches - at least from an hourology fanatic's point of view. What's especially appealing about TAGs is that they can be worn by young guys with a straight face. There's some good pieces available from competing brands like Omega and IWC, but they typically lack the element of "blue-collar testosterone" I enjoy seeing in watches. Detailing on TAGs run the gamut. Some are fantastic, and others leave you wondering why they didn't hire a skilled face designer.
Bad news is - there's virtually no good TAGs to be had south of US $600. The Carerra you pictured is an expensive piece. I'd expect it to retail for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,800, and you'd be hard pressed to find it legitimately auctioned on Ebay for less than $1,200.
GOOD NEWS IS - I've discovered a truely fantastic TAG that's not terribly hard on the wallet, and can be had for a resonable price: The 2003 Aquaracer Automatic.
The markings on this watch are spot-on for a diver's-style watch, and who the hell doesn't like an automatic movement with a second hand sweep? The going retail is about $850,
but they can be found all over Ebay for a good deal less. You may even be able to score one new, or nearly new for less than $600.
I've probably shown everybody a thousand times, but here's my watch:
I'm toying with the thought of getting the Aquaracer I mentioned above, but what I
really want now is a black-faced Monaco with a metal band:
Ok that's it. Somebody start an argument about watches for cryin' out loud. This'll be fun!
