Enron: The smartest guys in the room - 05-15-2007, 04:39 AM

I saw this documentary last year but accidentally found it on google video on Sunday and watched it again. It's a very interesting and fascinating documentary about the fall of Enron.
Since there is a handful of guys on GCZ who have a big interest in economy or are investors I thought I share the link. the documentary is in a pretty watchable quality is worth watching.

I've seen this documentary. It's recommended viewing. But if you want to know what happened to Enron, just rent Wall Street with Michael Douglas. He says, "Greed is good. Greed is right. Greed works!"

Luw, can I ask you a question, since you are/were from Sweden? I found an old magazine (early-'90s) article about Swedish tennis legend Stefan Edberg. Edberg says that Swedes back home resent some athletes making so much money, even more than even successful businesses. His point was that businesses create jobs and better society while athletes make more but only for themselves. Do you think what Edberg describes was true back then or is true today?

On a related note, I met Edberg at a tennis tournament in Canada in the early-'90s. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I still have his autograph.

Edberg's statement is pure bullocks. Athletes creates jobs just like businesses. Just look at how much money a big sporting event like the Olympics or World Cup generates. Such events creates lots of jobs and help business's in the respective city.
Sure athletes don't create jobs directly just like businesses and most of the money generated does straight down their pockets. But then again businesses CEO aren't exactly saints. A few years ago there was a very hot debate going on in Sweden about a CEO of a top company who got fired and was going to receive a whopping 90 million dollars for because of that. That money is equivalent to a years salary for 300 000 average Joes.
What about the CEOs who get increased salary and multi millions in bonuses despite the fact that the company they are working for is not earning any profit and firing thousands of workers? Do they care about anything else than money?
The truth is that greed in in every business and I find it very amusing that Edberg threw garbage at athletes, when they are role models creating hopes for millions of youths.

This video is very interesting. Thank you for posting it. I have never seen nor heard of it. I began watching it last night and still have a little bit left to finish. I have always considered business a very competitive field. It is interesting to see how peolpe in business will deceive others, but the most interesting thing of all is when you are deceiving the deceivers themselvse.

Kenny boy and the others didn't just deceive their colleges but a whole nation. The sad thing was that there was so many firms who contributed and were apart of the whole scam. I feel sorry for all the people who lost their money.
