There has been at least 1 fatality. I am assuming that is the pilot.

One of sweden fightplanes (JAS) crashed the other day but pilote survived.

Very sad, but ive always wondered that with all there crazy stunts and stuff how often this type of stuff happens with the Blue Angels

It is weird and hard to answer a question. Obviously with all the media coverage now on it, you are able to see some interesting stats. It is not the fisrt time it happens, but as many believe--I do too--the Blue Angels are th best. So, can and why does it happen? Well, I guess the investigation into the crash will yield some light on it, however, there are something interesting facts that were revealed, or at least mentioned today.

First, the Blue Angels do not wear G-suits. It apparently messing with their capabitly of performing. So, pilots are suceptibible to blacking out. Now I am that most, if not all, of these guys are good at avoiding this, but who knows if this was the cause. Second, they do in fact experience issues. I think 1999 was the last Blue Angels Incident, which was not to long ago.

The plane went down near a friend of mine's parents house. The house is now inenhabitable.

Regarding the last post - I wonder if I'm in the minority thinking that dangerous ariel stunts are retarded. Not only is it a conspicuous waste of... like, stuff... but sometimes we get situations where innocent bystanders are put in harms way.

I feel as though I've been conditioned over the years to think of the Blue Angels as patriotic do-gooders. If I stop to think about it, I realize that bleeding-edge stunts they pull are the arial equivalent of a monster-truck show.

My Step dad is in the air industry and has met many of these pilots. They have had accidents before. I remember him saying that the dangerous part about their techniques and maneuvers is that they do things in unison and if the leader messes up, the potential of them all messing up is heightened. There have been even worse crashes in the past where they have all crashed. Bad news though.

Osna, I have to agree. I have been to my fair share of air shows, and while they are fun to go to, the lurking danger to all of us, and the residents surrounding is always in the back of my head.

I understand where you are coming from. I know that some would jump on you for such a comment and that comes from ignorance rather than intelligence. I see them as stunt coordinators/great pilots/patriotic airmen, however, I do admit that what they do is dangeours. I think the Blue Angels have had about 28 deaths. Nevertheless, for the Navy, and the military as a whole, the Blue Angels are a marketing practice in order to get young little boys to go to the military. I don't know if you know, but Top Gun raised the Navy's recruitment right after by I think 5% or 15%.

I think it is dangerous what they do, but since they are the best of the best, I think they are the ones that feel they can do it? Who knows.
