Considering Nissan have been making bad ass cars for so long now, I highly doubt that Renault had a big hand in it.

I was hoping for that as well, the car looks more aggressive with them. Without them the front of the production car looks a bit empty and friendly.

Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

Updated: It didn’t take long for more images of the 2008 Nissan GT-R to surface and this time ‘round they’re official and come attached with some of the car’s final specs courtesy of Edmunds. According to the source the new GT-R will feature a twin-turbo V6 engine with 473hp (353kW) and 588Nm (434lb-ft) of torque. Drive will be sent to all four wheels via an all new six-speed dual-clutch gearbox dubbed the GR6. Gears can either be changed using the centrally mounted shifter or the same leather and aluminum paddle shifters as seen in the G35.

Original: Hot on the heels of our world first picture of the GT-R, U.S. magazine Autoweek has released nearly a dozen more pics detailing the exterior and interior of the car have hit the web. From the outside, the car is exactly what you’d expect: dead sexy. On the inside, however, there are a few surprises.

For one, space is not at a premium - the trunk space looks immense for a car in this category and despite the heavily sloped roof line, rear seat room looks very good too. But the real surprise inside is the aesthetic detail. Black leather trim on black plastic with satin metallic highlights remind us strongly of the 350Z, although the cockpit is a little busier with the proliferation of steering-wheel mounted controls and center-console buttons and knobs. The bright-red start button just behind the gear selector grabs the eye, as does the rather large GT-R logo in the center of the steering wheel. While it might be different in person, from the pictures we are beginning to understand just how Nissan managed to pack so much performance into so few dollars.

------------

Thank God its not a AMG wannabe - six-speed dual-clutch gearbox

Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

Is no-one else anticipating the most important spec? The car's time around the 'ring? If I remember correctly the old GT-R was the first production car to crack 8 minutes around the Nordschleife and I would be very surprsied if this was not faster - it has got (probably even more advanced than before) 4WD/steering, faster gearbox, grippier tyres (most likely), a lot more power and more torque. The only question is weight. The interior of that car loks fairly opulent and it has 4 seats which would also add to the weight. Hopefully the V-spec is a stripped-out 2 seater wih no compromise and perhaps even a top-end power boost for that ultimate road rocket!

Supposedly it can do the 'Ring in about 7:38.

Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

I think it looks terrific. Spot on for this market whilst still leaving room for creative license on the go-faster bits for higher performance models.

I could do it, no problemo...

Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

I'm dying to see technical illustrations of the drivetrain layout and get some concrete info on the transmission. Edmunds says it's a 6 speed sequential transmission, others claim that it's a 6 speed Dual Clutch unit. WorldCarFans makes mention of a transaxle gearbox! How the hell is that gonna work with AWD? Let alone AWD and a DCT gearbox! Questions, questions...

That would be amazing, probably too vague of a source to knowwhat tyres were used though. AFAIR from Just_me's thread, only some hypercars (read Carrera GT, Koenigsegg and Zondas) and the superlights (radical sr3, atom etc) would be faster in this case, an amazing feat for a car that costs less than a 911 turbo.

Like you martin, I can't wait to see some juicy cut-aways and exploded diagrams!

Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

Well here is some more news.

Autoweek Drives the 2009 Nissan GT-R

"Earlier, Mizuno-san had offered some lap times from the Nordschliefe for various cars driven by the German magazine SportAuto. Those times are driver-dependent, track-knowledge-dependent, weather-, traffic- and bunny-crossing-the-track dependent. But Mizuno suggested the GT-R could get anywhere from 7:44 on up, with most laps coming in between 7:55 and 7:58."

So in other words, factory time is 7:44 but with traffic and such it could get to just below 8min.
