Re: Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

The weight distribution is still not a perfect 50:50, it is 53:47, which is very good for a 4WD, front midship performance car. As for the technical aspect of the car, I am very interested in those carbon fibre reinforced drive shafts. I don't think there are any major car companies that use them in their performance car. Nissan started to use it in the 350z, now the engineers have refined their technology so it can be used in the more powerful GTR. I know it is a 4WD system but the torque distribution is not at 25% per wheel as it is constantly changing according to the condition.

Does anyone know the dimension and material properties of them? Info such as the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, degree of deflection under full load, and the torsional stress under full acceleration. I am interested in it because recently I have to design a steel drive shaft for a bogie, and I would just like to compare this to the carbon fibre item.

Naruto, I haven't actively been seeking technical details on this new AWD layout but I'm certain that this car will have an even more sophisticated tri-diff torque management system than the already high-tech GT-R 34.

Yes I belive so too.
And BTW, if I'm not mistaking, the active tri-diff AWD system was Lancia's creation with the Group A Delta HF Integrale and its street-legal version. It was the first I know with such a system.
The GT-R I belive had 4 Wheels Steering and semi-active suspension system.

This car will be a techno bomb.

Too bad the standard car is still a bit heavy. There has to be stripped out version, hopefully with a carbon fibre roof.

Music to my years; this kind of reminds me of the Eurofighter Typhoon and my beloved Active Ride F1 racers of the early 1990s.

Well to go all the way IMO it should have been:
- mid-engined
- with a lower mass/lighter
- 4 Wheel Steering (does it still have it ?!)
- active suspensions
- movable wing(s) a la SLR/Veyron

Nissan GTR/Skyline diehards will die if the GTR is mid engined like the Ferrari and the Lambo. I don't think the new GTR has 4 wheel steering, judging by the photos I have seen so far, they might built in some passive steering geometry into the suspension, but I seriously don't think they have active 4 wheel steering system. As for active suspensions, something like the Magnetic dampers in the F599 and the R8 will be great. Are they considered as active suspension systems or semi active?

Do you notice right underneath the central LCD display there is a button labelled "Carwings" I have no idea what it does, maybe the car has internal flaps cause that rear wing definitely doesn't look like it is movable.

I don't think the Skyline ever had 4-wheel steering... AWD, yes of course, but I can't ever recall a GTR with 4WS.

The R34 did have 4WS, they call it HICAS, or Hi Capacity Actively Steers, and yes it doesn't make any sense but that is what it stands for (from CAR September 1999 issue). Apparently the rear wheels work independently from the front wheels. When car turns in, the back wheel also turns to eliminate understeer, and when the car starts to drift the rear wheels turn the opposite way to help the driver drift.

Wow. Can't believe I didn't know that...

I had heard of HICAS, but never equated it to 4WS. Thanks for info Derek.
