![]() | Re: Mercedes-Benz SLC - Hit or Miss? Perhaps this car will have too much horsepower to have a manual--at least an MB manual. The DSG-type transmission roumored for quite some time is a safer bet. Where the SLR missed the boat, i think is that it was too clinical in its performance, had an automatic, cost too much, and perhaps had too much regular Mercedes in it and not enough bespoke materials. For the 599 to cost slightly more than half, and to match and surpass it like that is what exposes the fallacy of the SLR, IMO. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mercedes-Benz SLC - Hit or Miss? The orignal SLC was infact a hardtop version of the SL. Check out this 1978 Merc SLC 5.0. I can imagine the next SLC will be mostly SL in design but lighter and stiffer much like the new Black-Series Mercs. ![]()

There's no question wether it's going to be a hit or not. Expect the 2009 and 2010 production to be sold out within days after the cars has been launched. We big dogs in Monaco and Dubai will eat it for breakfast. ![]() | |

Let's not turn a SL into a SLC or detune the SLR and turn it into the SLC. I really want them to make a true Mid-engined car and not an engineer's mid engined car. Here is what I'm looking for: 1. Engine behind the driver. 2. Different design from what we've seen. 3. Raw as hell, no sacrificing performance for comfort. 4. Make it just the SLC no AMG variants. 6. Car should be limited production. Something like 500 should be good. 7. No spyder/drop top version please. If it meets those requirements above, then hell yes, it will be a hit.

![]() | Re: Mercedes-Benz SLC - Hit or Miss? I think the SLC is indeed the mule we have been referring to as the Black Series SL. The redesign of the back window is too extensive for this car to be simply an SL Black Series. I think there is not going to be a Black Series, but rather just the SLC, which is one and the same, when we think about it. So, out of three upcoming [super]cars from MB (SL BS, SLC, Gullwing), I think two are actually in the works: 1. SLC (coupe based on the SL) -rumored to come in two flavors: 580 hp naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 (Hammer I); and 700 hp twin turbo 6.0L V8 again (Hammer II - the why on the reduction of .2L for the tt version, is beyond me) 2. Gullwing (SLR's successor) - rumored to come also in two flavors: 700 hp (Hammer II); and 1,000 hp from a yet unspeculated-on engine (perhaps a tt version of the upcoming 4-valve V12??) The SLC is bound to be the wildest mass road going Mercedes to date. Let's hope they come up with some appropriate bespoke version of the SL interior |
