I think it will be up to the customers to decide at the end of the day. If BMW goes for new turbo fours and sixes and see customers are not buying their M models because of these smallish engines, then they will bring back the big-banger V8 and V10 engines.

It's a consumer-driven business afterall.

Not if strict regulations go into effect.

The future is very bright.

Let's not forget that the customers also expect the same character as today. Furthermore, all talk about the next M3 engine being a V6 must end now

Willisch ruled out M versions of the new Z4 and of the 7 Series. Of course, BMW once ruled out M versions of any crossovers. That has changed, and you'll read about it at motortrend.com in our pre-New York International Auto Show coverage early next month.
Well, let's see here.

They say that there are good news but I can't find them... they say that M will remain commited in providing "track-ready" and "fun-to-drive cars (and crossovers" but in the same breath we are told that there will be no M version of the Z4, which, apart from the 1-series coupe, is the most suitable base for a track-ready, fun-to-drive car in the whole BMW line-up.

No, go ahead and build M versions of the people movers that are the 5 GT and 3 GT.

I know I'm bantering, those who used to like M-cars will now have the Tii, SS or whatever BMW decides to call them.

Im soooo looking forward to this part, time to let the bug trucks go and focus on this:

"This would mean a twin turbo four cylinder in a car that is below the M3. We are working on it, but only as business cases are concerned, as solutions are concerned. Because you're looking at a car in the neighborhood of 1300 kilos (about 2860 pounds, roughly equal to a VW GTI). And you would need at least 300 horsepower. I would love to have a car like that in our range. It would also be a good thing to get the interest of younger customers again.

1300kg, 300hp and to get the young customers intrested again (me). Go Willisch!!

Yes, I guess it is not people below 50 that are demanding BMW to build cars more like Mercedes does.

It s much easier than that.

Get a 130i engine and put it to 300hp and you have a winner.

My racecar is a 130i the weight aproxx 1100kg.

Weight is the key here. And of course atmo engines for durability. I rang a engine tuner and asked him about the 135i for use as a race engine. The answer i got was. No durability. Not an engine which you can go straight off factory to the track. It needs lot off work to be used on track.

My 130i engine has zero tweaks orginal ecu bmw. We raced 3 year cup races and now lots of trackdays. Zero problems. It s the best engine bmw has at this moment. Some engines have 16000km only race km. We use 10w/60 tws and no problems at all. No overheating problems. etc.

This is a base engine for M to use and nothing else.

Turbo s are good for gti lads and seat cupra s drivers with baseball caps on there heads.

I guess we will have to hang on to the 130i:s then, because there will be a long time before BMW builds another engine like it...
