4th "X" Model Confirmed for SC BMW Plant

Hey guys one of my Plant contacts confirmed this past weekend that the SC Plant will get a 4th "X" model. He would not at this point....confirm what "X" model. My guess the X4,given the initial sales success and "general " applause for the X6 design. The X4 will be the 2nd Gen X3 with the X6 "Coupe" design. My contact will eventually fess up on the model.I'll keep you posted. Thanks! PalBay

I thought the X1 is going to be built in Europe?

and X4 is stills on the books of whether to be built or not

4th "X" Model Confirmed for SC BMW Plant

X1 will be built in Leipzig plant (Germany).

The 4th "X" from SC plant will be X3-based SAS: sports activity SEDAN - the X4.
As you know Mk2 X3 will be build in SC plant.

X1-based X2 will be an SAC ... a 3dr SAC.

X2 ... 3dr SAC (based on X1)
X4 ... 4dr SAS (based on X3)
X6 ... 5dr SAC (based on X5)

***

SAS: a 4dr off-road-sedan crossover. Something similar to this but with a bit lower & tad longer tail, and more sedanish roof line: especially around C-pillar. TwinDoor tail gate solution very possible.

So, when SAC has more coupe-ish / hatchback-ish profile, SAS will have one more similar to a sedan (lower & longer tail than SAC).

If someone can lower & extend the tail on this AutoBild X4 impression, I would be very grateful. Putting a boot-lid in line with lower greenhouse line, and maing C-pillar slimmer (it's too thick).

Re: 4th "X" Model Confirmed for SC BMW Plant

xCoupe ... something the X2 will look like.
Not the styling but the general stance.

X4 will be like a mix of X3 (X3-like styling, higher sitting position, higher ground clearance, ...) and 3er sedan (sedan-ish profile, sedan-like handling & driving dynamics).

Think of very beefy Allroad 4dr-5dr sedan (TwinDoor) with X3-like styling (inside & outside). Again a very unique vehicle.

Re: 4th "X" Model Confirmed for SC BMW Plant

Btw, Spartanburg plant is being expanded - to be able to reach production of 240,000 units per year by 2012.

In 2007 BMW sold / produced 120,000 units of X5, and 112,000 units of X3.

So, together 232,000 units. Add the X6 production, and the number easily exceeds 240,000 limit.

So, the 240k units per year capacity is already not enough for X3, X5 & X6 production. I really can't see another vehicle being added / produced in SC plant. Unless they limit the production of X3 & X5 - in favour of more profitable X6 (and upcoming X4) model.

"Real" SC Plant capacity post expansion will be close to 300,000 units.Longer term goal of the SC Plant is to add an Engine Plant onsite at the SC BMW Campus. There is sufficient land on the Campus even after current expansion to support engine plant.Plant needs annual volume approaching 250,000 units per year to support the investment in the engine plant.Engine Plant would also help BMW counter the weak US dollar which is killing profit margins on all exports to the US.Thanks!
