The technology this thing unveils just opens up so many possibilities.

Provided they can meet the cost/safety criteria, this could reduce manufacturing costs and times (since stamping is no longer needed). Also if an owner doesn't like the surfacing of their car, or their mood changes, they can easily adapt the car to suit.

A car that adapts itself to the environments, conditions, needs of the driver.. that is a hint of the future. That will be a revolution. MB also has a car with moving body parts from what I read, but nothing like that!

Kudos to BMW, . MB and Audi have to react if they don't want to badly loose the technology battle.
Retracting wings were the first step...that is something from another dimension!

I'm glad to see BMW are bold enough to materialize Chris' ideas.

The guy has utterly crazy ideas about automotive design, extremely radical & revolutionary. A completely new design paradigm.

I hope we'll ses some other Bangle's ideas materialized.



PS: I've been just informed GINA features design cues of all upcoming Z models: Z4, Z2 & Z8!!! It's a Z-preview in general! And finally the new upturned 3D kidney grilles are being presented!

Not a fan of the way it looks, but the technology is freaking awesome - if it makes it to production. The possibility of being able to get rid of all the hinges alone is worth a $zillion for a designer. And if it does make it to production, it would put BMW far ahead of others in terms of design possibilities.

Well it is wonderful ....but these types of ideas have been happening in art and other areas of industrial design for some time ...but there is no doubt, this is a very exciting concept.

True. But in automotive design? That's a one crazy idea, you must admit.

I'm not saying Bangle is a pioneer in industrial design ... but he likes to think out of the (automotive) box - therefore pushing solutions & ideas from "outer world" into automotive design (eg. metal origami, layer-ness, mirrored 3D shapes, flexible skins, bone-like body structures etc) .

Changing the automotive design paradigm, not the design paradigm at all.
