I will give the reason to BMW and Scott if I see how the X5 M and the X6 M are also cancelled, as they are high consumption models, that wonñt be purchased by a vast public.

If not, I will think that BMW gave priority to those cars, even being against BMW M phylosophy, instead of making a brand new flagship.

I explained this 20 times already. The E7x M's are pretty much ready for production. The R&D of these cars started so long ago (we are talking years). The CS was still a few years away. If the E7xM were to be released a few years away, they would have been axed too.

I don't know how much more clearly I can say this. Why are we discussing what the priorities are?

BMW CS Concept Based Production Version Officially Cancelled!!

Looks like BMW won't be fielding a Porsche Panamera competitor after all. The CS Concept, planned as a new flagship to replace the 8-Series, has officially been cancelled. Citing product and project reviews in the face of the current financial crisis in Europe and the United States, BMW's CEO Norbert Reithofer announced that the concept is officially a no-go. BMW plans to put its resources toward future technology, its EfficientDynamics and project i programs.

It's a disappointing move for BMW fans, but a prudent one. The current market for super-sedans is limited and likely to become more so if the economic situation continues to get worse. Though a financial upturn could see renewed consideration for the CS Concept, BMW was mute on the chances of this happening.

^ Oh come on now, the GT should have been ready in about 2 years max. Probably just a year after the X M models dropped. Its not like the decision to cancel the GT came about today, even though it was just announced. I think we're pretty smart around here and dont have to buy into every car industry spin. BMW clearly just feel they dont 'need' a higher flagship! Wasnt the car to be the epitome of efficient dynamics for the M brand anyway?? Is it any less relevant than Rolls Royce coupes and other models to be launched in the future?

Let me put it this way:

The picture was posted on GCZ in August 2007. When do you think development for this car started?

Now let me ask you this. Have you seen a mule for the CS Concept? Sure development for the car started already but it's nowhere as mature as the E7x.

Look guys, I've already said more than I should, and if that doesn't satisfy your appetites, I'm afraid you'll have to go hungry. As for the marketing stuff, don't look at me, I didn't say anything. I also don't know about the politics and timing of the cancellation. I'm only talking about development times.

BMW should drop all large cars and focus on small nimble fun cars instead. Thats my opinion I can't say I'm crying to see the CS being cancelled.

Its not about the development times. But BMW didnt just realize what the R & D budget for the GT would have been. Im even starting to believe the concept CS was nothing more than a 'promo' idea in the first place.
And any statement about the GT being cancelled because they want to concentrate on efficient dynamics will be ironic to everything they stated in the past

What past? something they said 5 years ago?
The world is changing so are the carmakers besides now we have to think of fuel and the environment. Even Porsche are going to start producing 4-cylinder engines.

Like it or not , fuel and efficiency is the future.

It is about the development times because then you can figure out the timeframe of a car. The economy went to crap, what can we cut? A car that is deep into development and almost ready... or a car that just got the greenlight?

Also, if this whole thing was a promo, it would have been something like the M1 Concept. And be done with it... and what makes you think they didn't know what the R&D costs were going to be? Do you really think they'll just give a greenlight without looking into what the car would cost to BMW? That's not how things work Anthony

I'm sure there are higher up decision makers that didn't want to axe the car, since it got such positive reactions... but you only need the news headlines in the last few days to see how bad things are right now
