You mean like the one Porsche 928 had.

I have no idea.

But just like DPC+xDrive system had been introduced to as "Dynamic xDrive", I guess this and some other new systems were hinted to me as "Adaptive Drive Ver. 2.0" - the system featured in the new F01 7er.

I can only guess ... Perhaps this AWS system is indeed a part of an active suspension (= Adaptive Drive Ver. 2.0).

I can only imagine the driving dynamics of a car featuring DPC active rear differential + xDrive + Adaptive Drive Ver. 2.0 + Active Steering Ver. 2.0 ... this paired with V8 bi-turbo engine, and 8-speed automatic gearbox (or even DCT one).

Imagine a next 5er with all of this, with updated TT diesel engine with more than 300hp...

X5 is on the way and will remain for at least 2 years and i thought X6 would be the next car, but this what Eni said... In new 5er...

Regardless, i doubt i'll move back to saloon after X5...

Maybe I should play the lottery next week. This is what I said a week ago (in the Official X6 thread) :

Re: Latest BMW Trademark Filings

xDrive??d & xDrive??i models with AWD + DPC,

sDrive??d & sDrive??i models with RWD + DPC?

But why no V8 engines included in sDrive?? designations (... higher number is 35: I6 twin-turbo)???

Just guessing but maybe they are not planning to make a Z-model above the Z4 but name them using just numbers (8er, 9er) Z8, Z10 etc. trademark filings being just precautions. If they use the 4.0 V8 it will probably be the Z4 M.

Re: Latest BMW Trademark Filings

sdrive designation could be for upcoming X1 which might have a RWD option only
i don't think the "whatever"Drive nomenclature would be used on anything other than SUV's

Good thinking. I'm not too fond of this new naming policy so naturally I hope it doesn't get spread to other than X-models.

hDrive is not a hard guess: Hybrid Drive
eDrive is more tricky: electric?, eco?, efficient?, energetic? Drive
xDrive is an AWD system

But what is sDrive? sportDrive, perhaps? RWD + DPC?

Or another AWD system (eg. for X1) which is shared with MINI? Highly unlikely, but possible.

Since X model without AWD sound like an oxymoron, and a total marketing irony: X models are designated X due to featuring xDrive AWD system. Just like in Audi case where eg. Q models indicate quattro.

As seen BMW decided to market & promote their xDrive AWD system more directly - to take on other branded AWD systems: quattro, 4-matic, 4-motion, SH-AWD, etc.

So, to this analogy sDrive is another special drivetrain system worthy of being specially marketed & promoted. IMO that's RWD + DPC configuration. While xDrive badge will be featured on vehicles when also DPC will be on board.
