So they are getting some inspiration from the past. Cool. Their cars will be very unique with the shark look and there is even a chance the competitors will follow.

Re: BMW unveiled "Concept CS" !

I love this concept.the more i see it the more i enjoy it. Its hood, is a beautiful detail. I truly love how the dlo is echoed in a crease near the top of the roof.its really meancing with its lights on.
it looks retro a bit,too.
the interioris gorgeous, now that BMW has established I-drive, they can now do what they do best. Driver oriented interiors. Its nice to see I-drive take a back seat this time around. and the bangle butt isnt as pronouced as before.
i would love to see this in person, its a bit dull, and not as exciting as lets see, the x-coupe(i was in love with that thing)but its truly stunning.
i like how a vehicle of this size appears to have such little visual mass and i like how the shark nose is echoed in the hoff kink. they are both very sharp. the forms and surfaces are impresive. it has rather nice proportions. the kidneys IMO are too big and the front intake is drag to look at.
It appears that they even used some 'hidden cues' that are in the current models on this concept.I'd love to work with adrian and the bmw design team.but I got to get through design school first, and thats still about 2 years away..

BMW going back to the roots - incorporating all the good stuff from the old BMWs with the current & future design cues (eg. flame surfacing, eyebrows, "Bangle-butt", etc).

He acknowledged shark nose was hard to recreate due EU pedestrian law - but engineers & designers made it to overcome all the obstacles, so shark nose is coming back!
That's what i'm talking about!!!

Thanks, Eni!

Re: BMW unveiled "Concept CS" !

BMW design chief, Adrian van Hooydonk, "explaining" the desing of Consept CS:

Quote:
The CS's body explores the outer edge of manipulating material to create almost organically sculpted surfaces. 'We want people to automatically want to touch the car,' says van Hooydonk.

The wheel arch feels like it's been moulded by hand - so much so, you can almost see the artisan's handprints on the smooth metal. 'It's all one surface that slightly changes as you go towards the wheels. We always want to emphasise the wheels as it makes the car feel more dynamic, and here the body does that surface change in a really subtle way.'

'This is probably the most luxurious thing we have ever designed. For BMW, luxury cannot be a traditional form of luxury.' And achieving this has been all about reducing the amount of design you notice. Van Hooydonk likens it to hotel lobbies that are so visually stark they are almost Zen-like, yet are still perceived as luxurious.

Re: BMW unveiled "Concept CS" !

Gentlemen, allow me to eat my hat. I love this car now.

I don't know what it is, but over the past couple of weeks I've gone from hating every inch of this car's mug to thinking it's the best thing since the bunny ranch. Bangle, Hooydonk & Co. have definitely done it again. That it took me this long to apprecite this car is a very good thing.

This happens so often I'm starting to think that the opposite of my initial opinions are always the correct ones. Next thing I'll be singing praises for the A5!

Glad you've came to your senses, Josh.

That reminds me about my appologies for bitching about 599 'cause i didn't realize from the beginning how utterly beautiful that car is...
